Police issue S.A.R.A.A. alert for toddler abducted from north St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS COUNTY • Police are looking for a one-year-old boy who was in the back seat of a car that was stolen earlier today off a street in north St. Louis County.

St. Louis County Police issued a SARAA alert for the boy, Carmon Cross, who turned one year old on Thursday. He was taken some time today from the 2200 block of Wheaton Avenue between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. while he was in the back seat of a blue 2006 Dodge Magnum, Missouri license plate PJ5 M9H.

It was unclear why the boy was in the back seat of the car or who was supposed to be watching him.

Police were searching for the car, believed to be driven by Nautica Jones, 17, who is described as a black female, five feet 11 inches tall, 240 pounds, with a sandy brown afro and wearing navy blue shorts with the word "Mario" written on it.

Carmon is described as black, weighing 18 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and a diaper.

Wheaton Avenue is located near Oak Grove Cemetery off North Hanley Road.

Updated 9:57 p.m.--St. Louis County Police said that
St. Louis City Police have taken 17-year-old Nautica Jones into
custody. She remains in their custody. Police have also recovered the
vehicle.


Carmon Cross has also been found and will be taken to an area hospital for an examination.


No motive is known at this time. Charges may be filed when the investigation is complete.

Flash I was thinking the same thing. I had to re-read that to see if I saw it correctly. Hell, being taken may have saved that baby's life.

I saw an interview on our local news (looking for video) about the abduction. I thought the report said that a grandmother or aunt was napping and when she awoke Carmon, Nautica and the car were missing. That explained the window of time.

Oh, the way the article is written, it sounds like the baby was left in the back seat of the car and then it was stolen. Perhaps poor journalism is at play here.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -- A 1-year-old was returned to his family Wednesday night after being abducted from a north St. Louis County home earlier in the day.

Just before 9:30 p.m., County police reported the 1-year-old boy, identified as Carmon Cross, was returned to the family. He was taken to an area hospital for a wellness check.

It is not clear what time the abduction occurred, but authorities say it could have been as early as 11 a.m. Police said they did not receive information about the kidnapping until Wednesday evening. County police began working the case around 7 p.m..

A neighbor told News 4 the child's aunt, who was babysitting the boy, arrived at their home frantic that the child was missing.

The aunt, who who reportedly worked a night shift the day before, woke up from a nap and could not find the young boy.

Upon arriving at the neighbor's home, the aunt called multiple family members to report the missing child, but police were not contacted until later.

From the information provided by the family, police were able to identify a potential suspect. That suspect was identified as Nautica Jones, 17. According to reports, Jones is related to the child, but officials did not say how.

Jones reportedly took Cross and placed him in the back seat of a blue 2006 Dodge Magnum that was stolen from the family home in the 2200 block of Wheaton Drive.

Police stopped the car in St. Louis City and apprehended Jones. She was taken into custody.

Officials reported Cross did not appear to have any injuries.

Investigators are looking into the case, but the motives of the suspect are not known at this time.
