Mother accused of abusing child with tire iron

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a mother after they said she hit her daughter with a tire iron in front of her school, Tuesday.

According to police, Tonya Larrieta Burns was allegedly seen by a security guard exit her vehicle at Carol City Sr High School, grab a tire iron and strike her daughter several times.

The police report said the victim put her arms up to defend herself. As a result, she suffered several wounds to her arms.

Burns appeared in court Wednesday morning where a judge issued a bond of $25,000. If she posts the bond, she will be placed on house arrest.
