Three children, woman found fatally shot in Jefferson County

DeSoto, MO (KSDK) - Jefferson County authorities are investigating the deaths of four people found deceased overnight in the area of Vineland Road and Wilson Hollow outside the DeSoto city limits.

No names were immediately released; however, Sheriff Boyer did tell NewsChannel 5 the deceased are ages 1, 10, 11, and the adult woman is 32.

Preliminary evidence lead investigators to believe the woman who was found dead is the mother of the three children. The estranged boyfriend is the father of at least one of the children.

Sheriff Boyer says the estranged boyfriend arrived at his residence around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and saw the car in front of his home. He left and contacted authorities to not violate the order of protection against him.

Deputies came to the scene and found the children in a vehicle parked in front of the home. The woman was found at the bottom of the steps leading up to the home.

Sheriff Boyer said a 12-gauge shotgun was found next to the woman's body.

All four of the victims had been shot in the head.

Authorities are seeking witnesses who may have saw or heard anything in the area overnight.

Investigators say it is too early to know what happened and they are not ruling out the possibility it was a homicide or a murder-suicide.
