Man arrested after Amber Alert issued for 9-year-old girl

STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- An Amber Alert issued for a 9-year-old Stonington girl
has been canceled. The child has been found safe, and a registered sex offender is under arrest.

State Police confirm Daisha Rhodes was found safe and Daniel Candales is in custody.

The Amber Alert for Rhodes was issued after she disappeared from Stonington just after 7:00 p.m. Monday night.

She was found a couple hours later with Candales in a Stop & Shop parking lot in Richmond, Rhode Island.

Candales, of Lisbon, is a registered sex offender . He was convicted of three degree sexual assault in 1998.

STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A 9-year-old Stonington girl for whom Connecticut police
had issued an Amber Alert has been found safe in Rhode Island, and a
registered sex offender who is friends with the girl's mother is in custody.

Lt. John Arnold of Richmond police in Rhode Island says Daisha Rhodes was found with Daniel Candales, of Lisbon, Monday evening outside a grocery store. She was reported missing hours earlier.

Arnold says Candales is being held without bail on a fugitive from justice charge. The Hartford Courant reports he is a registered sex offender.

Arnold says Candales evaded police from Connecticut and Rhode Island during a
pursuit and was found parked at a Stop & Shop. He says the girl appeared unharmed.

Stonington Police say Candales, a friend of Rhodes' mother, is expected to face other charges in Connecticut.
