Teacher Kathryn Murray Gives up Passport After Planning to Flee with Teen

A 29-year-old teacher has been ordered to surrender her passport after she was thought to have been planning to elope in Mexico with a 15-year-old student.

Kathryn Murray was ordered to stop contacting the student, but was found at his father's home.

On Saturday, a judge in Houston, Texas ordered her to surrender her passport.

Prosecutors said they had fears that she was planning to flee to Mexico with the teen in order to start a new life.

She is set to go on trial later in the year on four under-age sex charges. She faces up to 20 years in jail.

She has been accused of having sex with the teen at his home, in her classroom, and at a hotel.

Murray was found at the teen's home, who is now 16. When police called, the boy snuck out of his house and was listed as a runaway by his parents.

Now, Murray faces a new charge of harboring a runaway.

Her initial arrest was last February, when she was first accused of having sex with the teen.

It was discovered that the two were having sex when the boy's brother saw her bra and a condom in the teens room. He then saw an outline of someone under the covers and heard her voice.

The teen soon confessed to his mother that the two were having sex and that he was in love with her.

After an investigation, police discovered that the two had sex at a hotel on the night of a school dance and in her classroom in Memorial Middle School.

She was released with a GPS ankle monitor and was given orders to stay away from the boy.

The victim's parents expressed their outrage over the situation, saying that the boy was hurt and confused.

"We are not good, we are very hurt. My son is really confused, hurt. We are working with him very closely but he's not good, not good at all," the victim's mother said.

The teacher was fired last year, and the Spring Branch School District expects her to be punished.

"We feel that Ms. Murray's behavior is despicable, and encourage the district attorney to prosecute Ms. Murray to the fullest extent of the law," the district said.

"fullest extent of the law", about time. Too often I have seen females get lesser charges and sentences for sex crimes. It should be equal under the law. No matter what the gender of the criminal doing the heinous things to children. A crime against a child is still, a crime against a child. This boy does have some psych issues and I hope he gets the help he needs. William

Kathryn Murray, Houston middle school teacher, faces more charges for sex with 15-year-old student, police say

(CBS) HOUSTON - New charges were filed against Kathryn Murray, a west Houston middle school teacher who was already accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student last winter, CBS affiliate KHOU reports.

Murray, 29, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a child in February. Two more counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of improper relations with a student were added against Murray on Monday.

The eighth-grade teacher was initially accused of having sex with the boy at his home on Feb. 11 while his parents were away. Now police are saying Murray had sex with the same boy at a hotel on the night of a school dance and in her classroom in Memorial Middle School on two separate occasions.

Murray was removed from the classroom and let go from her position after the initial investigation.

"The alleged conduct of Murray is shocking and outrageous, and will never be tolerated in our school district," Spring Branch Independent School District spokesperson Steve Brunsman said in a statement.

Spring Branch ISD Police Chief Chuck Brawner said Murray's alleged actions will never be tolerated by law enforcement and he is confident the case will lead to a conviction.

"We have a victim and it's our student. And it's not only the victim who's affected, but it's every student that goes to that school," Brawner said. "What this teacher has done is violate the trust parents place in teachers."

Murray, who attended both Memorial Middle and Memorial High School growing up, taught at Memorial Middle for three years as a Language Arts teacher.
