Maryland Woman Charged With Killing Missing Daughter

Authorities have located the body of a toddler whom they believe was killed by her mother, they announced Friday.

Police say the mother, Chelsea Michelle Booth, 25, confessed to smothering 2-year-old Kassidey Booth and then disposing of her body in a dumpster.

Authorities found Kassidey's body after searching through 95 tons of garbage on railcars that were headed to a landfill outside the area Thursday night.

The investigation began after a neighbor called police Wednesday afternoon, saying the little girl hadn't been seen in days.

Booth has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, and first-degree child abuse resulting in death. She is being held without bond.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WUSA) -- We are learning new details about what reportedly happened in the death of two-year-old Kassidey Booth, whose body was found late Thursday night by Annapolis police who sifted through 95 tons of trash in the rail cars in a Jessup facility.

Twenty-five-year-old Chelsea Booth is charged with first and second degree murder and first degree child abuse resulting in death. She is scheduled to go to court at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say earlier this week a concerned citizen informed police about the missing child whom the person hadn't seen in several days.

After an investigation, police say evidence showed that Kassidey's mother, Chelsea, allegedly killed her two-year-old earlier this week and disposed of the body.

Police believed if Booth did dispose of the victim's body, it would be at a Waste Management Facility at 8077 Brock Bridge Rd. in Jessup, Md. They spent Thursday scouring a waste transfer center and isolated a railcar.

Charging documents show that Chelsea Booth initially lied about where Kassidey was, saying that the girl was with her father. The child's father and Booth do not live together and "have limited contact, according to the document. The child's father told police that he had not seen Kassidey in months, which prompted police to bring both parents in for questioning.

Booth told police "she was suffering from a 'Muslim Curse' placed on her by [the father]" and that "she believed Kassidey to be possessed by an evil spirit," according to the documents. On Monday or Tuesday, Booth told police she killed Kassidey by laying on top of her and smothering the child until she stopped breathing. "Ms Booth then wrapped Kassidey in a blanket and placed her body into trash dumpster," according to the document.
