Fugitive Andhra murderer extradited to US for killing wife, 2 kids in 2008

Nerusu Lakshminivasa Rao, a software engineer from Andhra who murdered his wife and two children in the US in 2008, has been extradited to face trial there, police said.

The fugitive, against whom an international arrest warrant was issued by a US court, was sent to the US by an American Airlines flight late Friday night.

Additional Director General of Police (CID) T. Krishna Prasad said in a statement released here Saturday that the accused was extradited as per the permission given by the Indian government following the recommendation by the extradition court at New Delhi.

Rao, a native of Gandigunta village of Krishna district in coastal Andhra, had brutally murdered his wife Nerusu Jayalakshmi (37), son Siva (12) and daughter Tejasvi (14), on October 13, 2008 in Michigan, US, after he had lost his job.

After committing the offence, he fled to India.

Subsequently, the US police informed the Interpol and issued Red Corner Notice (RCN) against the fugitive and the same was sent to CID, Hyderabad.

The CID on February 21 this year arrested Rao and a court in Hyderabad sent him to judicial custody. Last month, he was produced before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate court (extradition court) at Patiala House in New Delhi for the further process of extradition.

Trial date set for Novi man accused of killing family

A trial date has been set for a Novi man who was arrested in India earlier this year, nearly five years after his wife and children were found dead of severe head and neck trauma.

Lakshminivasa Rao Nerusu is scheduled to stand trial May 5 in front of Oakland County Chief Circuit Judge Nanci Grant. He faces three counts of first-degree premeditated murder.

Nerusu, 46, appeared Thursday morning in front of Grant for a pretrial hearing.

Authorities believe Nerusu killed his wife, Jayalakshmi Nerusu, 37; daughter, Tejasvi Nerusu, 14; and son Siva Kumar Nerusu, 12, in October 2008.

A relative who had not heard from the family in two weeks contacted police, who found the victims inside a home in the 29000 block of Wharton, off of Novi Road near 13 Mile Road.

Nerusu was arrested in February in India, waived legal proceedings there in April, and was extradited to Oakland County in May.
