Police search for man accused of sexually assaulting 9-year-old girl

DENVER, Colo. — Police in Thornton want to find a man who they say is suspected of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old female relative.

Police officers were called to North Suburban Medical Center at about 3:00 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a sexual assault victim at that location. She has been transferred to Children’s Hospital in Aurora for treatment of her injuries.

A statement says the girl was assaulted by a relative on Sunday night in the 9100 block of Huron St.

The suspect, 35-year-old Steve Allen Pierce, was at large Wednesday night and police considered him dangerous. He is a convicted sex offender who has a criminal history including failure to register as an offender in 2004 and 2005.

Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest late Wednesday afternoon. He faces charges of sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child – position of trust.

– Occasionally wears glasses
