Mother and her boyfriend 'put daughter, 3, in scalding water for telling lies and didn't take her to the hospital for A WEEK'

A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested after he allegedly put her three-year-old daughter in scalding water for telling lies and failed to seek medical treatment for her severe burns for a week.

The little girl, who has not been named, is now in the intensive care unit at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas after suffering burns to her body from the waist down.

Mandy Milstead, 23, and Brad Barker, 26, have been charged with injury to a child in connection with the incident on May 24 at their home in Freeport, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials with the state Child Protective Services contacted deputies about the child's injuries and deputies arrested the couple after an investigation.

They are being held in the Brazoria County jail.

The couple also have a two-month-old daughter together.

In April, shortly after the girl's birth, Barker wrote on Facebook: 'love being a pappy!! wouldn't change my family for the world!!'

He also writes about wanting to rush back home to see his 'girls'.

But on Monday, his status read: 'My fb family n friends, i just ask that you keep my family in your prayers please. We need all the love n support we can get through these tough times.

'i ask that u relive urself of any and all tension and allow yourself to reach into your heart and give us faith! Thanks for all of ur help!'

Being stern is one thing. Abusing is another. A little three year old barely knows right from wrong. That's just too young. Teach with love and care not abuse. From the one picture she looks like a gorgeous little angel. Just breaks my heart when I hear of these kinds of thing. I would give anything to love a little angel like her. How cruel, torturing her this way. All 3 year olds lie, especially those trying to avoid further abuse,
