Police charge juvenile with infant’s death, mom remains charged

Police seeking suspect in Charlotte homicide
A Charlotte mother remains charged in the death of her 7-month-old son despite the grandmother’s insistence that it was actually an older brother who killed the infant.
But on Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced that an eleven-year-old juvenile male has also been charged in connection with the death.
The boy, whose name has been withheld by police because of his age, is charged with felony child abuse.
Wendy Latwann Johnson, 33, was arrested Monday and charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they responded Saturday to a home on Suntrance Way in Charlotte after a call that a baby was unresponsive.
The infant was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators say he had been physically assaulted.
On Tuesday, Wendy Johnson’s mother told WCNC-TV that it was Camden’s 11-year-old brother who killed him.
Debra Johnson said the brother was jealous over the attention the infant was receiving.
She also told WCNC that her daughter wasn’t home when the attack on Camden happened.
Debra Johnson said the older brother confessed Monday to police, using a toy doll to show how he dropped his brother on his head three times on purpose Saturday night, WCNC reported.
The brother also told police that after dropping him repeatedly, he put Camden back is his crib and poured water on him to try to wake him up, WCNC reported
