Eastside woman faces charges in infant death investigation

An Eastside woman is facing charges after Greenville County investigators were called to a house in reference to an unresponsive 3-month-old child, authorities said.

Pamela Clark Wood, 49, of 1 Donington Drive, Greenville, is charged with Children / legal custodian unlawful neglect of a child, children / violation of child daycare licensing and obstructing / obstructing justice, according to warrants.

On February 21, 2014, investigators were called to 1 Donington Drive in reference to an unresponsive 3-month-old child, said Deputy Drew Pinciaro, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Kellie Rynn Martin, 3-months-old, was found unresponsive in a bassinet, said Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.

The cause and manner of death are pending toxicology results, he said.

Deputies found 23 children at the residence that was licensed to provide daycare for up to six children, according to a warrant.

Investigators also found a loaded firearm on a bookshelf that was accessible to the children and alcoholic beverages under the kitchen sink with no child lock devices on the cabinets to keep the children from gaining access, Pinciaro said.

During the investigation, deputies were lied to about information concerning the infant’s death, according to a warrant.

23 children! Loaded gun and booze. This situation was an accident waiting to happen. What is wrong with parents that they would leave their babies in a daycare with so many kids and one worker. Surely they had to see how many kids were than and babies had to be crying and unattended. This sounds like the other daycare case where the baby smothered after being laid in heavy blankets.
