10-year-old Horry County boy beaten with "horse whip," police say

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) - A Longs woman was arrested after police said she beat a child in her care with a horse whip.

According to an Horry County Police report, Jennifer Renee Daniell, 30, used a whip to punish a 10-year-old boy for stealing a cookie at school.

Officers were notified on March 17 after the boy complained of bruising to both thighs. Police found the boy with bruising and whelps from the waist down to his knees on both thighs, the report said.

The victim told police Daniell beat him with the horse whip three days earlier. The boy also told police his mattress was removed from his bed and some meals were taken away as part of the punishment.

Daniell admitted to hitting the child with a wooden stick wrapped in leather with two leather straps on the end. She stated that the object used was not a horse whip, but that her father used the same type of device on her when she was growing up, the report said.

The victim was placed in protective custody by the Department of Social Services.

According to J Reuben Long Detention Center booking reports, Daniell was charged with cruelty to children and released on a $2,500 bond.
