Babysitter charged with losing child while drunk, high

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) – A 46-year-old East St. Louis woman has been charged with three counts of child endangerment after losing a 3-year-old girl she was supposed to be babysitting while she allegedly drank alcohol and smoked crack, marijuana and cocaine.

A mother reported her three-year-old child missing early Tuesday morning. The child was supposed to be in the care of Markee Garner.

At some point during the night, Garner allegedly lost the child, who ended up in the care of another individual. Upon seeing media reports about the girl's disappearance, the individual took the child to the East St. Louis Foot Locker, where she was reunited with her mother.

Garner's male companion, identified as 50-year-old Everette E. Cole, has been charged with three counts of endangering the life/health of a child and obstructing identification. Police say he knowingly gave a false name to an East St. Louis detective.

Garner is currently in custody at the East St. Louis city jail on a $25,000 bond. Cole is also in the East St. Louis Jail and being held on a $20,000 bond.

(KMOV) – Two people have been charged in connection with the case of 3-year-old Ronesha Milner, who was found wandering the streets of East St. Louis alone.

Markee Garner, 46, of East St. Louis was charged with three counts of endangering the life and health of a child. Garner was babysitting the 3-year-old and allegedly consumed alcohol and smoked crack cocaine while the child was under her care.

Her male companion Everette Cole, 50, of East St. Louis is charged with three counts of endangering the life and health of a child and one count of obstructing identification. Cole allegedly consumed alcohol and smoked crack cocaine in the presence of the child. When detectives asked for his identification, he is alleged to have knowingly given a false name.

It was determined by police that Garner lost Milner at some point Monday, and the child was left in the care of another individual that night.

Police said that individual saw media reports of the missing child on Tuesday and called authorities. The individual turned the child into police custody near a Foot Locker store in East St. Louis.

Tuesday, Milner’s mother lost custody of Milner and her younger sister.

Garner is incarcerated in the East St. Louis jail with a bond of $25,000. Cole is also incarcerated at the East St. Louis jail with a bond of $20,000.
