Amber Alert issued for Okla. baby who may be heading through Colorado
An Amber Alert that was issued Thursday night is now believed to have been a case of miscommunication.
On Thursday night, an Amber Alert was issued for 5-month-old, Olivia Smith.
It was reported that Cindy Findley, 48, from Kingfisher County, Okla., was believed to have have taken the infant and was en route to Salt Lake City accompanied by Jennifer Skousen, 43.
At 4 p.m. Thursday, the Seminole Police Department in Texas said they were contacted by the former stepmother of the 5-month-old. She told police that she had paperwork showing she had power of attorney and temporary custody for the infant which was granted by the mother of the infant, who is incacrerated in Parker County, Texas.
Findley and Skousen are related to the infant and were transporting her from Oklahoma to Texas. They had copies of the paperwork along with a signed note from the former stepmother giving permission to transport the infant.
At about 1:30 a.m. Friday, officers stopped a vehicle that was circling the area, and although it was not one listed on the Amber Alert, it was driven by Findley. The infant and Skousen were also in the vehicle.
Findley and Skousen both stated that they did not kidnap the infant.
The vehicle was escorted to the former stepmother's residence and the infant was found to be in very good condition.
Texas Child Protective Services were advised of the situation and said that they will be talking with the family and monitoring the situation.

No charges filed in case

OKLAHOMA CITY —The husband of a woman police took in for questioning following a Thursday Amber Alert has issued a statement.
“The facts are the following: my wife, Cindy Findley, and my sister-in-law Jennifer Skousen are concerned, first and foremost, about the safety of the five-month-old baby Olivia Smith," Sid Findley said in a statement.
An Amber Alert was issued Thursday for 5-month-old Olivia Smith who authorities believed was taken by Cindy Findley and Skousen. Cindy Findley and Skousen were taken in for questioning after they were found in Texas with Olivia safe and in their custody.
"Olivia’s mother had signed legal documents authorizing the removal of the child," Sid Findley said in a statement. "Baby Olivia was being taken out of a dangerous environment. Unfortunately, a private family matter escalated because the accusing individual maliciously and falsely issued an Amber Alert and made misleading statements to the media in order to escalate the private family matter."
“We are happy Baby Olivia is now in safe hands and out of a dangerous environment. We appreciate everyone’s concern and respectfully ask to be able to keep this personal family matter private at this time. It is unfortunate that inaccurate and misleading remarks covered by the media have created false impressions of my wife and our family. We hope the public will take this into consideration and we thank you all for your understanding.”
The family also released a picture of Cindy Findley, Skousen with Olivia being held a Seminole police officer.
No charges have been filed in the case.
