Bryan Alexander Michel, 22, went before a judge on Tuesday for his first appearance in St. Joseph Superior Court since his 4-month-old daughter, Halo Stutzman, was killed earlier this month.
Michel is accused of neglect of dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony. If convicted, he could face up to 50 years in prison.
St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller scheduled trial for Nov. 12 with a pretrial conference for Oct. 22.
Woodward Miller also ordered a bond screen for Michel, which would give a judge information about whether it is appropriate to reduce his bail.
He is currently held on a $100,000 cash bond.
Halo was placed on life support on July 10 after she was found not breathing in a home in the 1400 block of Dubail Avenue.
The baby died at a hospital two days later. Doctors found bruises, a skull fracture, bleeding behind the eyes and a brain injury, charging documents said.
The documents alleged Michel did not seek medical treatment when the infant was hurt.
The father, though, told police two different stories about how Halo was injured while he watched the baby while her mother, Dominique Stutzman, was at work.
First, he said Halo's older sister accidentally pulled the baby off the couch onto the ground, a probable cause affidavit says.
Later, though, Michel said he fell on top of her while he was giving her a bath, the document says.
The affidavit says doctors had questions about the nature of the injuries, but couldn't disprove Michel's account.
Prosecutors have said the case remains under investigation.
