PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man who admitted to taking a Portsmouth girl across state lines and triggering an Amber Alert was sentenced to serve more than seven years in prison.

Daniel Berger of Haskell, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to one count of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct back in July.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison with 15 years of federal supervision upon release. He was also ordered to pay over $900 in restitution to the victim’s family and register as a sex offender.

According to authorities, he admitted to meeting the teen girl online, picking her up at her home in Rhode Island and bringing her to New Jersey. The girl was found last July by FBI agents in Berger’s apartment.

Berger was also ordered to not have contact with anyone under 18 without permission from a probation officer.
