ORLANDO, Fla. —Attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez said they are watching Casey Anthony closely after reports indicated she is in New York with intents to sell her story.

Gonzalez filed a defamation lawsuit in 2008 after Anthony claimed a woman by the same name kidnapped her daughter, Caylee.

Anthony was acquitted in 20011 in her child’s murder.

Gonzalez’ legal team told WESH 2 that they have not dropped the defamation lawsuit against Anthony and vow to go after any money that she may make.

Anthony succeeded in discharging more than $700,000 in debt in federal bankruptcy court.

“The defamation claim was not wiped away when Casey Anthony filed for bankruptcy,” Gonzalez’ attorney Matt Morgan said.

Court records show the defamation case has not had a new filing since a motion to dismiss the case was denied in December 2013, but that may change amidst published reports that Anthony is in New York with a publicist to sell a tell-all interview.

“I was not surprised by this. We were waiting for her to cash in on this case,” Morgan said.

Even if Anthony does succeed in selling an interview, which no media outlet has been willing to pay for one since her murder acquittal, Morgan said he knows that payment could be funneled through a variety of sources, making the money trail as difficult to find as Anthony herself.

“That will not dampen our enthusiasm to collect. We will stay the course and ensure everything is done to hold Casey Anthony accountable in this claim,” Morgan said.

In May, Anthony was photographed in public for the first time in two years. She was seen volunteering at a 5K race in Lake Worth, and jogging in a West Palm Beach neighborhood.

Anthony's sighting in West Palm Beach has led to speculation she is living in a home owned by a private investigator, who was part of her defense team.
