DC Police Officer Indicted For Sex Trafficking Of Minors: U.S. Attorney

A former DC police officer from Prince George's County has been indicted on charges of sex trafficking of minors and other charges.

BALTIMORE, MD — A former Metropolitan police officer from Prince George's County has been indicted on charges of sex trafficking of minors and enticement of minors to engage in prostitution, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Stephen M. Schenning announced Wednesday.

Chukwuemeka Ekwonna, 28, of Glenn Dale, worked as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC. Prosecutors say in June 2010, Ekwonna exchanged about 53,000 messages with thousands of users on the social media platform Tagged. Ekwonna allegedly used his Tagged account to send messages to other users offering to pay them to engage in specific sex acts with him and to negotiate over the prices he would pay for sex, prosecutors said.




From December 19, 2016 to April 5, 2017, Ekwonna exchanged about 200 text and Tagged messages with a 14-year-old girl and offered to pay her to engage in sexual acts with him. Ekwonna also exchanged messages with a 15-year-old girl, prosecutors said.

Ekwonna met up with the 15-year-old girl on January 9, 2017, prosecutors said. Ekwonna allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim in the back seat of his car and demanded that she give him back the money he had just paid her.
