A 25-year-old Arlington man has been indicted on a capital murder charge in the June 24 death of his 4-month-old son.A
Tarrant County grand jury returned the indictment last week against
Jason Antoine Farrington in the death of Jayden Farrington, who died a
few hours after he was found not breathing in the north Arlington
apartment where the father was caring for him, authorities said. The
Tarrant County medical examiner’s office ruled that Jayden died of
blunt force trauma to his head and abdomen. The grand jury
indicted Jayden’s mother, Pavielle Monique Simpson, on a charge of
injury to a child by omission. Child Protective Services workers had
ordered Simpson, 24, to keep Farrington away from Jayden after the
baby, then 1 month old, was hospitalized with skull fractures in March.

A 25-year-old Arlington man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to injury to child in the June 2009 death of his 4-month-old son, the man's attorney said Tuesday.Jason Antoine Farrington was facing a capital murder charge in the death of Jayden Farrington, who was found not breathing in a north Arlington apartment where his father was caring for him.Farrington was facing the capital murder charge in Judge Mike Thomas’ Criminal District Court No. 4.Under the plea, Farrington will have to serve at least 30 years of the 60-years-to-life sentence before he’s eligible for parole. A conviction on the capital murder charge would have been life without the possibility of parole. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office ruled Jayden’s death was caused by blunt force trauma to his head and abdomen.Jayden’s mother, Pavielle Monique Simpson, also faces a charge of injury to a child by omission. Her trial date has yet to be set.Child Protective Services worker had ordered Simpson, 24, to keep Farrington away from Jayden after the baby, then 1 month old, was hospitalized with skull fractures three months before his death. /* SEE /nm/data/ContentManagement/CM1/static/styles/pluckOverride.css * /

mdeller@star-telegram.com FORT WORTH -- An Arlington woman who had been ordered to keep her 1-month-old son away from his father was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in prison for allowing the man access to the infant, whom he fatally injured three months after the order.A Tarrant County jury deliberated for just 45 minutes Wednesday before convicting Pavielle Simpson, 25, of injury to a child because she failed to keep her son, Jayden Farrington, away from Jason Farrington. The jury deliberated about seven hours Wednesday and Thursday before recommending that Simpson be sent to prison. Judge Mike Thomas of Criminal District Court No. 4 imposed the sentence.Jason Farrington is serving a life sentence in the death of his child June 9, 2009. He was initially charged with capital murder in the death of Jayden, who died of blunt-force trauma to his head and abdomen. But Farrington pleaded guilty to a charge of injury to a child and was sentenced in March. He told investigators that he punched his son in the head and stomach to make him stop crying. He also confessed to fracturing the baby's skull in March 2009. While the baby spent several days in Cook Children's Medical Center after that injury, Arlington police and Child Protective Services investigated how the fracture occurred and ordered Simpson to keep Jayden away from his father.Instead, prosecutors said, Jason Farrington moved in with Simpson and her roommate, Taneisha Benjamin, the day the baby came home from the hospital. When CPS workers visited, Farrington hid, and Simpson told the caseworkers that he had moved back to New Jersey, prosecutors said.Three months later, the day that Jayden was fatally injured, his father was baby-sitting as he usually did while Simpson worked, prosecutor Kimberly D'Avignon said. After he injured Jayden, Farrington sent Benjamin to pick up Simpson at work. The two women called 911, and the operator heard Simpson tell Farrington that he needed to hide before the ambulance arrived.Simpson also persuaded Benjamin to tell authorities that she was the one who was baby-sitting Jayden. Benjamin pleaded guilty to making a false report and received two years' probation. She testified at Simpson's trial.D'Avignon said Simpson had another child, fathered by another man, last month. The baby is in the custody of the father, she said.
