Timothy - FOUND SAFE
Metro police hope to identify a man connected to the disappearance of a Louisville teenager. The 16-year-old is home safely but his family and police spent nearly 8 hours Monday trying to find him. That was after Tim Payne Jr. left with a man he thought was interviewing him for a job. Tim's family says he walked with the man answering his questions long
enough to know something was not right, so he ran off. But by that time, Tim was lost with no phone and no doubt, scared.
Metro police were concerned enough too to spend hours interviewing the
boy tonight Police were trying to find out all they can
about the man who posed as a restaurant manager to lure away Timothy
and his friend with the promise of a job. It turned out there was no job but police are confident there was a lot of danger. Cody Colyer couldn't do much but sit on his bike and wait. His friend's dad, Tim Payne Sr., paced the parking lot waiting for a phone call with good news. Both of them and everyone else gathered outside this Preston Highway
Waffle House just wanted to see Tim Payne Jr., a 16 year-old not seen
since he and Cody showed up here Monday morning for what they thought
would be a job interview. It was an interview with a
mystery man who Cody's dad says approached the boys Sunday offering
part-time work. "They come up here all excited thinking
they're really going to get a job. 16 years old? You want a job. The
next thing- he tells my son- you stay here because you got a cell
phone. You come with me I’m going to take you down the street to get
you fitted for uniforms," said Wayne Colyer. That's when Tim started walking down Preston Highway with the man. "He has bad intentions or he wouldn't have started this last night,
meeting them at Liberty High School, telling them to meet at Waffle
House." Tim's dad held his son's picture begging for help
finding him safely while metro police fanned out across the city
searching as we spread the word first, on our 5:00 newscast. Then just 45 minutes after that report, the call with good news that
Tim was safe and with police miles away in the west end. "I’m so so happy with all the support. Everybody showed up here. And I
really appreciate y'all putting this on the news because that brought
out a lot of people," said Tim. "And then hopefully, I
don't know the whole story yet, but we can get who did this. That's my
main concern because I don't want this to happen again." Tim's family says after a few minutes of walking and answering
questions with the man, Tim knew something wasn't right so he ran off. The problem was he was lost with no phone. Tim told detectives he
thinks the man was trying to get him somewhere. The manager of Waffle House says the man is not their employee. As Louisville police try to identify the man, they're also talking to
police in New Albany. That's because just a week ago, a woman called
in telling a very similar story about her son and a man
claiming to be a Waffle House manager in New Albany. Detectives will be comparing notes to see if this is the same person.

Re: TIMOTHY PAYNE - 16 yo - Louisville KY
Police are looking for a person of interest after a teenager disappeared for nearly eight hours. The
good news here is that this missing teenager is back home, but
Louisville Metro Police said the circumstances surrounding his
disappearance are similar to a case in New Albany, and there could be
more.
"Apparently in this situation there did not appear to be any foul play at this
point, but certainly we are concerned about an adult possibly luring a
teenager away," said police representative Dwight Mitchell.Police
said that adult pretended to be a Waffle House employee, enticing two
teenage boys to meet him with the possibility of a job.The teens
tell police that a man approached them Liberty High School on Sunday
evening, and then asked them to meet him on Monday for a job interview."He
did walk them down to the Preston/Grade Lane area," Mitchell said. "He
told one of them to stay back while the other one went with him to
possibly get fitted for a uniform. That was the last time that young
man had been seen until about 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon."Police
said at that time, the teen called his parent from a McDonald's after
walking with the man for about eight miles from Preston Highway and
Grade Lane to 26th Street and Broadway."From what I'm told, yes,
they were walking along Preston Highway until they ended up in the West
End," Mitchell said. "I'm not aware of them ever getting in a vehicle
or getting. They were walking and talking, that's what we were told."The
boy appears to be unharmed, but Metro Police said this situation is
similar to one in Floyd County, Ind., and they think there may be
others."That's what we want to know. There's at least one other
incident that we feel like is very similar to what happened here,"
Mitchell said. "Certainly we're going to investigate all angles of this
to find out exactly what the motive of this gentleman is.
"Police describe the man as a black male, around 5 foot 8 inches to 5 foot 9 inches tall, in his late 30s or early 40s.Police said he is not an employee of Waffle House.
