Police are seeking the public's help in trying to identify a young woman with no memory of her name, home or family. “We
are asking anyone who may know this young woman to help us locate her
family as quickly as possible, so we can safely reunite her with those
who love her,” ACS Commissioner John Mattingly said this afternoon. “She is safe with us, and we are doing all we can to help her, but she needs to find her family." “I
just want to know who I am,” the soft-spoken, blonde youth, who was
found on Oct.9, 2009 in Times Square and is estimated to be between 14
and 17. “I want to know who I am, and what happened to me.”
The young woman is 5-foot-6, medium build, light complexion, short, with straight blonde hair and blue eyes. At
one point, she wrote down the name “Amber” and responded to the name on
one occasion, but she claims she has no idea whether or not it is her
name, according to ACS. She recently found herself recalling
the words to what turns out to be an excerpt from a fantasy novel
called “Fools Fete” by the author Robin Hobb. She also said she
has been writing a fantasy story featuring a heroine named Rian “who’s
been raised by the commander of the guard post on the edge of a fantasy
kingdom.”

The amnesia-stricken girl found wandering in Manhattan two weeks ago was identified Saturday as a missing 18-year-old from the West Coast, police said.Police are working to reunite the teen with her family, who had reported her missing early this month from their Washington state home, cops said.Cops found the girl on Oct. 9 in front of Covenant House on W. 41st St.The teen wasn't carrying any identification and claimed to have amnesia, sources said.A fingerprint check did not reveal her identity and investigators had little else to go on.She recalled the words to a fantasy novel, "Fool's Fate," and is writing a story. She remembered that she was studying to take the GED exam. And she wrote down and responded to the name Amber, but she was not sure if the name was hers.Detectives identified the teenager from a call to the NYPD's tip hotline, sources said.It
was still unclear how the teen ended up in midtown. Her name is being
withheld until family can come and positively identify her, a source
said. The lost girl remains in custody of the Administration for Children's Services, sources said.

Re: KACIE PETERSON - 18 yo / Amnesia victim - Hansville WA
A young woman who turned up wandering aimlessly in Manhattan
suffering from apparent amnesia has been identified as 18-year-old
Kacie Aleece Peterson of Hansville.
And her family says it's not the first time she has disappeared and then later was found with apparent memory loss.
Originally from Colville, in Eastern Washington, Kacie had been
living with a friend in Hansville and attending Kingston High School,
said a Kitsap County sheriff's Office spokesman.
Kacie's father went to New York City on Sunday to pick her up and bring her back home.
Officers responding to a call on Oct. 9 in Midtown Manhattan picked
up Kacie at Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth near the Port
Authority.
She told authorities she was unable to recall details about her identity, including her name and where she was from.
In a news release from New York City Administration for Children's
Services, the woman said, "I just want to know who I am ... and what
happened to me."
Police said she was wearing military green camouflage pants, a black
shirt and a pair of black sneakers when she was discovered. She was
given the name "Jane Doe" until her true identity could be determined.
She told authorities that she was writing a fantasy story, and she
seemed familiar with the fantasy novel "Fool's Fate" by Robin Hobb.
A viewer who saw her photo in a CNN television news report
eventually recognized Kacie and contacted authorities with information.
Kacie's father, who still lives in Colville, was then contacted by New
York officials.
Scott Wilson, spokesman for the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, said Kacie had been reported missing by her father on Oct. 1.
Wilson said detectives found bank activity and other evidence that
she was alive and getting by. Based on this information, they did not
issue an Amber Alert or initiate a search-and-rescue operation.
Kacie's father told officers that her mother had died, and that his
daughter had gone to live with a friend of her late mother in Hansville
before she disappeared.
She had been attending Kingston High School, but didn't have many friends and was only taking a couple of classes.
There had been some pressure and stress between Kacie and her father
about her grades and other things. Her father was planning to visit her
in Hansville when she suddenly disappeared.
The father told authorities that Kacie has had episodes of amnesia in the past.
On a previous occasion she was found lying by a stream with only patchy memories as to who she was and how she got there.

Re: KACIE PETERSON - 18 yo / Amnesia victim - Hansville WA
It turns out a woman found in New
York, who authorities say has a rare case of complete amnesia, is not a
teen who has been missing for over two years, but a young woman from
Colville who has been living on the west side of the state. Kitsap County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Scott Wilson told KHQ, the 18-year-old woman has been identified as Kacie Peterson. Peterson
recently moved to Hansville from Colville to live with a friend of her
deceased mother in June of this year. She had previously been living
with her father Henry Peterson in Colville prior to moving to the west
side of Washington. A missing person's report was filed for
Peterson on Oct. 2nd in Kitsap County after Family members in Colville
contacted the Sheriff's Office. Wilson said the girls father told
deputies that the woman's entire bank account had been drained. He
also said that when the family first reported Peterson missing they
requested the media not be notified. Wilson said he had no idea
on how Peterson got to New York or what she was doing there, "We don't
know if she took a plane, bus, train or hitchhiked. We don't know how
she got there" Peterson had been taking classes at Kingston
High School part time. Willson said she had only been attending school
a short time. School officials said Peterson was shy and quiet and
didn't have many known friends at the school. Earlier Sunday
New York Police said they had identified the 18-year-old, who they are
referred to as "Jane Doe", but did not release her name. All they would
say is that she's from Washington State. Peterson was found at a shelter for homeless youth in midtown Manhattan on October 9th with no memory of her name or her family. At
first authorities thought the missing woman may have been Kara Kopetsky
of Kansas City, Missouri. She was last seen at her high school in may
2007. After national media attention 3 tippsters called the New
York Police and identified the young woman as Peterson. New Yor Police
then notified the Kitsap County Sheriffs Office who positivly
identified her as Peterson. Wilson said Sunday night a family member from Colvill was flying to New York to bring Peterson back to Washington. New
York City's child welfare authorities say she showed up, disoriented
and unresponsive, at the gate of Covenant House, a shelter for children
who have no family support. Guards got her an ambulance. But two weeks
later, she still had no idea who she was. No one at Covenant
House knew her, either. The Administration for Children's
Services, which is caring for the girl, said as far as psychologists
can tell, her amnesia is genuine. The ACS had quoted her as saying, "I just want to know who I am."

Re: KACIE PETERSON - 18 yo / Amnesia victim - Hansville WA
Over the weekend, officials announced that they had identified the teenager who was found wandering in Times Square
with near-total amnesia. She is 18-year-old Kacie Aleece Peterson of
Hansville, Washington, who was first reported missing on October 2nd.
But detectives in Washington found bank activity and other evidence
that she was alive and getting by, so they did not issue an Amber
Alert. Her father Henry Peterson is flying to NYC today, and he says
his daughter has experienced amnesia before.
On one previous occasion, Kacie Peterson was found lying by a stream
with only patchy memories as to who she was and how she got there. In
this most recent incident, Peterson had been living with a friend in
Hansville and attending High School. Her mother is deceased, and "there
had been some pressure and stress between Kacie and her father," the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. She was finally identified by a friend who saw a CNN report about her.
But aside from the amnesia, Henry Peterson says his daughter has no history of mental illness or drug abuse. He tells the Daily News, "I am totally baffled why she picked up and left." And in an interview with the Post,
he says, "She's fairly typical, but she's super quiet. She lost her mom
about 11 years ago. It hit her really hard. It's been tough ever since.
She's trying to find her way."
