Police in Layton are asking for the public's help in searching for a missing 10-year-old boy.
Robert Pierce IV didn't return home from Whitesides Elementary after school on Tuesday.


Robert,
described as a black male with black hair in a mohawk, was last seen
wearing a navy blue and white Fila jacket, blue jeans and green, white
and black shoes. Police say Robert is short, with a medium build.
He was last seen at the elementary school at about 3:25 p.m.
Because
of Robert's age, the cold weather conditions and lack of contact
despite an intensive search, he is considered an endangered missing
child.
"The Davis-area CART team (Child Abduction Response Team)
has been activated and has been looking for him (since about 9:40
p.m.)," Layton Police Lt. James Petre said. "The police department as a
whole has been out there since about 7:30 when the father called us."

Police now believe a 10-year-old boy who failed to return home
after school Tuesday was picked up by his mother, who is involved in a
custody dispute with the child's father. Officers, however, are still trying to locate Robert Pierce IV and his mother to determine whether the child is safe.
"This
investigation is ongoing and is now focused on ascertaining specific
information concerning the child's custodial status," said Layton
Police Lt. James Petre in a statement. "There is no information at this time that the child is in any imminent danger of being harmed," Petre added.
Pierce
is described as a black male with brown eyes and brown hair that's
shaved into a Mohawk. He was last seen wearing blue jeans; a navy blue
and white Fila jacket; and green, white and black shoes. Police are
also searching for a 2002 white Chrysler 300M with California license
plate 6E0E275 in connection with the case. Anyone
with information about Pierce's whereabouts or anyone who sees the
vehicle should call the Layton Police Department at 801-497-8300.

A 10-year-old Layton boy who disappeared after school
Tuesday was likely taken to California by his mother, who is in a
custody dispute with the child's father, police say.
The boy,

Layton
police are looking for the boy's birth mother, Lashena Wilson, who
could be driving a white 2002 Chrysler 300M with California license
plate 6E0E275. Investigators don't believe the boy is in imminent
danger.
"We do believe the mother does have the child," Layton
Police Sgt. Jason Hinojosa said. "I believe the detectives have
obtained an arrest warrant for the mother and from what I understand,
she is likely in California right now. They're working with authorities
in California to try to locate her."

A 10-year-old boy who
had been missing since Tuesday afternoon has been found safe in
California, a Layton police spokesman said late Wednesday evening.
Robert Pierce IV was found with his mother in Whittier and taken
into custody by child service workers, said Sgt. Jason Hinojosa.
The mother was arrested on a felony warrant for custodial interference and is awaiting extradition to Utah, Hinojosa said.
