The Virginia State Police have issued
an endangered missing child alert after an 11-year-old New Kent County
girl went missing Sunday.
Alexis Cartwright was last seen at the Cumberland Children's
Hospital in New Kent, and may be in the custody of 55-year-old Lemuel
Cartwright. Alexis is believed to be in danger.
Alexis is described as a white female, 5 foot 3 inches weighing 137
pounds. She has sandy blond hair and blue eyes, and was last seen
wearing a blue Aeropostale coat, yellow/green shirt and blue jeans.
Lemuel Cartwright is described as a white male, 6 foot 7 inches
tall, with brown eyes and brown hair. He may be driving a blue 1993
Dodge Ram pickup truck with North Carolina plates XYZ – 8450.
They may be headed to Bath, North Carolina.

The New Kent County Sheriff's Office is currently involved in a Missing/Abducted Child Investigation.
On today's date at approximately 3:00 p.m. Mr. Lemuel Cartwright of
Bath County, North Carolina visited his 11yr old daughter at Cumberland
Hospital which is located in New Kent County, Va. Mr. Cartwright's
daughter, Alexis Cartwright is currently in the custody of North
Carolina Social Services and was placed at Cumberland Hospital due to
certain medical needs.
She was removed from the facility by her father without the permission of North Carolina Social Services or the hospital.
Mr. Lemuel Cartwright is a white male approximately 6'7" and is likely
driving a 1993 Dodge pick-up truck, blue in color, bearing North
Carolina tags XYZ-8450. It is believed that the father is possibly
headed back to North Carolina at this time.
Alexis Cartwright is described as a white female 11 yrs old, HGT/5'3",
WGT/135 lbs., HAIR/ SANDY, EYES/BLUE. She is an insulin dependent
diabetic and requires medications twice a day.
Anyone having contact with this vehicle, Lemuel Cartwright and/or the
missing juvenile is asked to contact the New Kent County Sheriffs Dept
at 804-966-9500 or their local law enforcement agency immediately.

An 11-year-old girl and the man suspected
of abducting her have found in Manning, according to a State Law
Enforcement Division press release.
Lemuel R. Cartwright, 56, is accused of abducting his daughter, 11-year-old Alexis Cartwright, on Jan. 3.
Manning police found the two at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in the parking
lot of a CVS Pharmacy. The girl was in good condition, according to the
release.
The N.C. Department of Social Services is in the process of making arrangements for Alexis’ return.
She was last seen at the Cumberland Children’s Hospital in New Kent
County, Va., and was though be in need of immediate medical attention,
SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said. Earlier Wednesday, she said,
agents believed the two were in the Georgetown area.
SLED has felony warrants on file for Cartwright charging him with
abduction and child neglect. He will be held on a federal warrant and
is scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday, according to the
release.
