CALVIN BROWN III - 7 yo - Dallas TX
At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Friday, Valana Spakes
waited for the stepson she and her husband haven’t seen since his birth
mother disappeared with him at Christmas two years ago.
His father, Calvin Brown, just brought him back from Atlanta where his mother had been in hiding.
“She has basically been on the run with him for over two years with him,” Calvin Brown said. “I last saw him in Nov. 2007.”
His mother, known as Audrey Edwards when last arrested in Dallas,
has a history of financial and identity crimes, police said. They also
said she used a number of fake names to elude capture. But Dallas
Police Lt. Christine Weisskopf never gave up.
“This woman has been very adept at eluding ourselves, the FBI, the
marshals, you name it,” Weisskopf said. “This woman is good at dropping
under the radar.”
Weisskopf got the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
to help by putting posters up nationwide. An elementary school
principal in Kansas saw one at a Walmart and recognized the boy ― a
child who'd just moved from his school to Georgia.
Now Calvin Brown, III is back at his dad's home in Rowlett.
The boy said seeing his dad is the best thing about being home.
While his mom faces felony charges, the two Calvins are making up for lost time ― safe, healthy and happy.
