MARIETTA, GA — Marietta police released a photo of a 13-year old girl Thursday because they think that she may be in danger. The girl’s mother also made a plea to anyone who may have seen her in the last week.
Police believe the girl, Jennifer De-Anda, of Marietta may have gone off on her own. But they think she might be in danger because of what the girl’s mother told them. Veronica Garcia told police her daughter may be with a gang that may harm her. “That’s my main concern, for her life I mean, she’s 13,” Garcia told 11 Alive News.
Friday, January 15th, Garcia says she got her daughter up for school. The 13-year old is a 7th grader at Marietta Middle School. Her mother says she walked out of the house to catch the bus at about 6:15am.
Garcia says she always meets her daughter’s bus after school. It stops right in front of their Richard Street home. But when she went to meet the bus after school last Friday, her daughter did not get off.
Garcia says she called the school and the school told her that Jennifer never came to school that day. Now it’s been almost a week and she hasn’t heard from her, or heard anything about her whereabouts. “If somebody sees her, please call 911,” Garcia said. “If somebody has seen her somewhere call and let them (police) know.”
Garcia says three months ago, her daughter came home all beaten up with a dislocated shoulder. She says she was initiated into a gang. Now Garcia fears her daughter is with that gang. She said she’s worried the gang may be sexually exploiting her daughter. “They’ll put them to work either at clubs or to sell drugs or make them carry drugs.” She said.
Marietta police say they need the public’s help finding the girl. “The police department has canvassed the neighborhood, contacted friends, a boyfriend, neighbors and nobody has had contact (with the girl) at all,” Marietta Police Officer Jennifer Murphy said.
Police are concerned about what Garcia has told them. “Because of her mother telling us about her affiliations with the gang, we believe that she’s in danger,” Officer Murphy said.
Garcia hopes someone who knows where her daughter is will see her picture on television. She’s also hopeful her daughter will see it. “If she is watching, I just want to let her know to come back home, and I want her home badly,” Garcia said as she broke into tears.
Marietta police want you to call 911 if you see Jennifer De-Anda. You can also call their confidential tip line at 770-794-6990.
