Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, 45, will spend the next 26
years in prison for killing her 13-year-old adopted daughter, Alexis
"Lexie" Glover.
In January 2009, Gregg-Glover told Prince William County police that
Lexie disappeared from the Central Community Library in Manassas.
Police launched a massive search. Somebody walking by a shallow creek
in Woodbridge found her body two days later.
A medical examiner ruled that Lexie died of drowning and cold exposure.
Police believe she was already dead by the time her mother reported her
missing, authorities said. Gregg-Glover later confessed to her murder.
Gregg-Glover pled guilty to felony murder, felony child abuse and filing a false
police report. A judge sentenced her to the maximum 51 years in prison
but suspended 25 years.

Teachers, social workers and others who knew Alexis “Lexie” Glover are holding a memorial service in her honor tonight.
The memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. at PACE West school, where the 13-year-old attended school.
Event organizers said the service is aimed at remembering Lexie and at spreading awareness about child abuse.
“I knew Alexis personally, and it breaks my heart that her death
could have been prevented,“ Amy Beddoo Thomas, one of the event
organizers said in an e-mail. “She was a beautiful, smart, and loving
child that did not deserve to have such a short life.“
Lexie died in January 2009.
Her adoptive mother, Alfreedia Leona Gregg-Glover, was convicted of
felony murder, felony child abuse and filing a false police report in
her death. Earlier this month Gregg-Glover was sentenced to serve 26
years in prison.
Police and prosecutors said Lexie was already dead when Gregg-Glover
placed in her in an icy creek and then reported her missing from
Central Community Library in the Manassas area.
Lexie’s body was found two days later in the creek in Woodbridge.
The medical examiner said she died of drowning and exposure to cold.
After Lexie’s death, reports of abuse surfaced. Several people who
knew the teen said they reported incidents of Gregg-Glover abusing
Lexie, but nothing was done.
After her death, the county’s police and social services departments
reviewed how they handled her case and implemented some changes. One
county social services employee was fired, and two
were disciplined. Three police employees were disciplined.
The memorial service will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at PACE West, 14550 John Marshall Highway in Haymarket.
All attendees are asked to wear purple, Lexie’s favorite color.
Feb. 26 was Alexis’s birthday. She would have been 15 today.
