KYLIE WILLIAMS - 3 Weeks (2010)/ Convicted: Father; Tristan R. Williams - Liberty MO
A 28-year-old Liberty man was charged Thursday in the death of his 3-week-old daughter.Tristan
R. Williams of Liberty faces one count of abuse of a child resulting in
death. Williams and a woman were arrested Wednesday, but the woman has
been released, said Clay County Prosecutor Daniel L. White. The
death was the fifth homicide involving a child — out of a total of 11
homicides — that White’s office has handled in the last three years.
“We have seen way too many of these cases and now I believe it to be an epidemic,” he said.White
said he planned to convene a meeting with other area prosecutors,
mental health experts and law enforcement authorities to discuss what
prompts parents to abuse their children and how to prevent the deaths
of young children. “As concerned citizens, we need to find out
what is going on and what is triggering this,” White said. “I don’t
know if it is societal or generational, but we need to get this to
stop.”According to court documents, Liberty police officers and
emergency medical personnel went to an apartment in the 1200 block of
Missouri Court on Sunday afternoon to investigate a report of an infant
who was not breathing.Williams allegedly told police that two
cats inside the apartment had pushed over the child while she was in a
bouncing chair. He also told dispatchers he had tried to revive the
child, according to court records.Investigators found no
evidence that the child had fallen and determined that her injuries
were inflicted by “non-accidental trauma.” She had multiple rib
fractures, facial bruises and swelling of the brain, authorities said. She
was taken to Liberty Hospital and later transferred to Children’s Mercy
Hospital, where she was placed on life support. She died Tuesday.Williams is being held on $1 million bond.

Tristan R. Williams blames cats for the death of his 3-week-old daughter
By Justin Kendall, Fri., Feb. 19 2010 @ 8:25AM
Tristan R. Williams allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that cats in his apartment had overturned his 3-week-old daughter's bouncing chair, leading to the child's death, KSHB Channel 41 reports.
Prosecutors aren't buying it and charged the 28-year-old Thursday with abuse of a child that resulted in death.
KSHB reports that Williams has had previous trouble with the Clay County Division of Family Services (in 2002 for a case involving alleged neglect of two other daughters, and in 2003 for lack of supervision of those daughters).
In the latest case, paramedics and police officers responded to a call of an infant who had stopped breathing at 1270 Missouri Court in Liberty on Monday.
KSHB reports that the girl "suffered cerebral swelling and retinal hemorrhage," which a doctor didn't believe was caused by a bouncing chair accident.
The infant was pronounced dead at Children's Mercy Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Silent Lucidity
Grim is waiting Tristan....
Police in Liberty have charged the father of an infant girl after the child died earlier this week, authorities said. Tristan Williams, 28, faces felony child abuse charges following the death of his 4-week-old daughter Kylie on Tuesday. According to police, Williams told authorities that two family cats knocked the child over on Monday while she was strapped to a bouncy chair at an apartment in the 1200 block of Missouri Court, causing her head to hit the ground. But prosecutors say that's impossible based on autopsy results, which show that the child had been beating to death. The baby was transported to Liberty Hospital by ambulance, and later transferred to Children's Mercy Hospital. The infant died at the hospital on Tuesday.Williams' girlfriend, and the child's mother, Jenna Hays, 19, wasn't at home at the time of the baby's death. The couple's neighbor, Kelly O'Dell, says that Williams and Hays argued constantly. "The police were here from quite some time, soon after that the ambulance took (the child) away and we knew something bad had happened," said O'Dell. "They lived above me in a different building, there was a lot of violence - a lot of yelling fussing back and forth, so much that the police were called. "O'Dell says that when the couple moved to a different apartment in the building, neighbors were thrilled. "When they left we breathed a sigh of relief because we didn't want them living in our building," said O'Dell. Williams and Hays were arrested together at a friend's apartment. Just two weeks ago, Williams was arrested for domestic violence against Hays but she refused to press charges. Authorities say that she was returning home from a doctor's appointment on Monday when she got the call that her daughter was being rushed to the hospital. "It just makes your knees buckle when you hear about any child being hurt," said O'Dell. "It's a big job raising children, and it's a responsibility of every person who's involved with the child to raise them right and take care of them."

Liberty man gets 20-year sentence in abuse death of 3-week-old daughter
May 16 (2013)
By GLENN E. RICE
The Kansas City Star
A Liberty man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for causing his infant daughter’s death, which he had told authorities occurred when cats in his apartment accidentally overturned the child’s bouncing chair.
Tristan R. Williams, 30, had pleaded guilty in March to second-degree murder in the death of 3-week-old Kylie D. Williams.
Liberty police officers and emergency medical personnel went to an apartment in the 1200 block of Missouri Court on Feb. 15, 2010, to investigate a report of an infant who was not breathing.
Williams initially told police and emergency workers that two cats had pushed over the child while she was in a bouncing chair. He also told dispatchers he had tried to revive the child, according to court records.
However, investigators found no evidence that the child had fallen and later determined that her injuries were inflicted by “non-accidental trauma.” She had rib fractures, facial bruises, retinal hemorrhage and swelling of the brain, authorities said.
The child was taken to Liberty Hospital and later transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she was placed on life support. She died Feb. 16, 2010.
