TROTWOOD, Ohio — An amber alert that was issued early
Tuesday morning for a 3-year-old Dayton-area boy was
canceled after authorities determined that he and the woman who
allegedly took him were no longer
in Ohio.
Adorian Hill was reported missing after midnight from the city of
Trotwood, located northwest of
Dayton.
Authorities said the child was taken by Ashley M. Hill, 27, who had
allegedly threatened herself
and the child in the past.
The amber alert was canceled at about 6 a.m. when authorities said
the boy was recovered in
Arizona. But a short time later authorities offered different
information.
They said the alert was canceled in Ohio because it was confirmed
that Adorian and Ashley Hill
had traveled to Arizona, but the boy had not yet been recovered
No additional information was available.

Authorities in Trotwood, Ohio, said a
3-year-old child who had been reported missing has been found safe in
Arizona.The child's non-custodial mother, 27-year-old Ashley Hill
and his grandmother, 48-year-old Delona Gray, have been taken into
custody.
The three were found at a Studio 6 extended stay motel in Tempe,
Arizona.Police in Trotwood said an Amber Alert was issued when
Adorian Hill, of Trotwood, was not returned to his Trotwood foster home
over the weekend after an approved weekend visit with his mother.
Adorian and two of his siblings are in the custody of Greene County
Children Services.Investigators
confirmed that Adorian boarded a plane with his non-custodial mother,
Ashley Hill, and grandmother on Saturday for Arizona.

Investigators
learned that Ashley Hill returned two of the children to the foster
home Saturday afternoon. Because she was on a weekend visit, she did not
have to return Adorian until late Sunday night or early Monday morning. When
the 3-year-old was not returned, the foster family began contacting
authorities and after a brief investigation, the Amber Alert was issued
late Monday night.Trotwood police said it looks like Gray lives
in Tempe, Ariz., and they began to focus their search there.A
check of air travel records told Trotwood police that all three were on a
flight that left Dayton on Saturday. The flight is believed to have
traveled first to Atlanta and then on to Phoenix Sky Harbor International AirportADORIAN HILL - 3 yo - Trotwood/Montgomery County OH/AZ alerted 2_bing.Authorities
said the boy's mother has threatened to harm the child or herself in
the past, which is why an Amber Alert was issued."This particular
mother has made threats against her own children, which is why the
children were removed to begin with," said Capt. John Porter. "Because
of that, we decided to issue the Amber Alert."

Ashley Hill told caseworkers last year she
heard voices and worried about harming her children.
So when Hill didn’t return her 3-year-old son,
Adorian, to foster parents after a weekend visitation, Trotwood police
issued a nationwide Amber Alert on Monday, March 15.
Authorities found Adorian on Tuesday, unharmed
in a Studio 6 Extended Stay motel in Tempe, Ariz., along with Hill, 27,
and her mother, Delona Gray, 48, who lives in Arizona.
Adorian is in the custody of Children Services
in Tempe, Trotwood police Capt. John Porter said.
Hill and Gray are in custody in Tempe, he said.
Porter explained that Hill, who once lived in
Greene County, first approached county Children Services in 2009, saying
she was hearing voices and worried about harming her children. Asked if
she had a plan to harm her children, she said, “Yes, a gun. It may be
quicker.”
The agency removed Adorian, his
8-year-old sister and 13-year-old brother from Hill’s home and placed
them with their great-grandparents in Trotwood.
Hill pleaded guilty Nov. 2 to misdemeanor child endangering after
Adorian was found wandering a street, according to court records. She
was placed on two years’ probation, fined $100 and ordered to get a
mental health assessment.
Children
Services granted Hill a weekend visit, approved through the normal case
management process, said spokeswoman J.J. Kunkle, who noted she could
not be more specific.
Saturday afternoon,
Hill returned the two older children to the great-grandparents, telling
them she was going to Arizona with Adorian and Gray.
The great-grandparents attempted to contact
Children Services, but the office was closed. They did not try the
after-hours number, deciding to wait for a scheduled home visit Monday.
Once Children Services discovered the boy was
gone, they contacted other family members, then Trotwood police about
10:30 p.m. Monday, saying they feared for the child’s safety. The Amber
Alert was issued within 90 minutes, Porter said.
Police were working with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s
Office on extraditing Hill and Gray, and on charges that could include
kidnapping.

The mother and grandmother of Adorian
Hill, the 3-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert earlier
this week, have been released by Arizona authorities, Trotwood police
said Wednesday, March 17.
Capt. John
Porter said the boy is still in protective custody and will be returned
to Greene County Children Services, which has temporary custody of the
boy.
The investigation still continues to
see whether criminal charges could be filed. However, police have
learned that the mother, Ashley Hill, may have had the boy for closer to
10 days, instead of just the weekend, as was previously reported,
Porter said.
The boy had been placed with
his great-grandmother, Porter said. After Ashley Hill did not return
her son to his great-grandmother, Trotwood police issued a nationwide
Amber Alert on Monday.
Authorities found
the boy, his mother and his grandmother, Delona Gray, on Tuesday at a
Studio 6 Extended Stay motel in Tempe, Ariz. The boy was unharmed.
The two adults were arrested Tuesday. Trotwood
police subsequently asked Tempe authorities to release them, Porter
said.
On Tuesday, Trotwood police said
they issued the Amber Alert because Ashley Hill told Greene County
Children Services last year that she was hearing voices and worried
about harming her children. She also said she had a gun, police said.
Asked about the situation, Children Services
spokeswoman J.J. Kunkle said she could not comment on specific cases.
“Whenever possible, child welfare in Ohio puts
an emphasis on working with families to correct concerns,” Kunkle said.
“Most parents are given an opportunity to participate in services to
see if progress can be made to alleviate the reasons the child came into
custody.”
