Denton TX ---- A toddler is dead and his
mother’s boyfriend has been charged for his murder. Deputies also said
there was evidence of sexual assault. The Denton County Sheriff’s
Office believes 26-year-old Curtis Leon Copeland abused 3-year-old
Jessie Fleming Fisher, Jr. at his home southwest of Sanger.

His
mother had dropped him and her other son off so she could go to the
hospital to give birth to a third son, deputies said. Next door
neighbor Trenton Womack said Copeland came over on Tuesday and asked him
to dial 911 because the toddler had fainted. He said he had been
throwing up blood for at least three days.

“All I could see was
a little boy laying on the ground with his eyes open like he was
lifeless,” Womack said. The toddler was taken to local hospital
where doctors found a broken pelvis, broken vertebrae, severe head
trauma, black eyes and bruises all over his body. He died on Wednesday.
Deputies said the boy’s mother claimed he had fallen down the
stairs. Although she has not been charged in the case, Child Protective
Services did placed her remaining children in protective care. The
agency said it has investigated the family four times for allegations
of physical abuse and neglect over the past three years.

A Denton County
man was charged with capital murder Thursday after the death of a
3-year-old boy he was baby-sitting while the child's mother gave birth.Curtis
Leon Copeland, 26, remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail, charged
with the murder of Jesse Fleming Fisher Jr. in his home north of Krum
off FM2450. The child died Wednesday after being taken off life
support at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.Court
documents show that Sharon Nicole Worthy, 20, brought Jesse and his
1-year-old brother to Copeland's home March 25 and left them Tuesday to
deliver her third son. Copeland, who had told sheriff's
investigators and a Texas Ranger that he saw bruises on Jesse when he
arrived, said he took the children to a neighbor to ask for help Tuesday
after he found Jesse on the floor unconscious, documents say.Doctors
told investigators that Jesse had a broken pelvis, severe head trauma
and broken thoracic vertebrae. He also had been sexually
assaulted, the doctors determined.Documents say investigators
obtained a search warrant for Copeland's home after he didn't show up
for a polygraph test and found handwritten notes to Worthy and his
father, saying he had done "something bad" and was sick.Sheriff's
Sgt. Roger Griggs said Child Protective Services investigators took the
1-year-old and the newborn boy while the investigation continues into
whether Worthy had any involvement in the boy's death.

A Denton County grand jury has returned a capital murder indictment against a Sanger
man in the beating death of a 3-year-old Bowie boy he was baby-sitting
while the boy's mother delivered her third child. Curtis Leon
Copeland, 26, awaits trial in the March 31 death of Jesse Fisher.
The Denton County district attorney's office has not decided whether to
seek the death penalty or life in prison without parole on the charge,
which is capital murder of a person under 6 years old, Assistant
District Attorney Jamie Beck said Monday. Bruce Isaacks, a former
Denton County district attorney who is Copeland's court-appointed
attorney, could not be reached for comment Monday. Copeland
remained in the Denton County Jail on Monday with bail set at $500,000.
The grand jury also indicted Jesse's mother, Sharon Worthy, 20, of
Bridgeport, on a charge of injury to a child/recklessness. Worthy
remains in the county jail with bail set at $250,000. The
indictments were handed up June 17.Authorities said that about
6:30 a.m. March 30, Worthy left her sons, Jesse Fisher and Malachi
Yeley, 1, alone with Copeland at the Denton County residence he shared
with his father while she went to a Bridgeport hospital for scheduled
induced labor. Worthy and her two sons had been living in Bowie,
according to Denton County authorities and court documents. The
baby, named Arian Lee Worthy, was born about 5 p.m. While Worthy
was in Bridgeport, an ambulance was called for Jesse, whom Copeland said
he found unconscious on the floor. Jesse died March 31 at Cook
Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Medical personnel told authorities that the child had numerous injuries
and had been sexually assaulted, authorities have reported. Worthy
and Copeland were the only people who had cared for Jesse alone
recently, and their accounts of his injuries differed, authorities said.
The boy had a head injury, a broken vertebra, a broken hip and bruises
all over his body, officials have reported. When authorities
checked on Malachi, he had a "busted lip and a bruise on his bottom,"
according to a CPS petition. Arian and Malachi are in foster care, CPS officials said.

Sanger man gets life for beating 3-year-old to death

A Sanger man convicted of beating his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son to death has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
A Denton County jury found Curtis Leon Copeland, 28, guilty of capital murder on Thursday in Denton.
Copeland received the automatic sentence because prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
The Sanger man was convicted of killing 3-year-old Jesse Fisher in March 2010. He was baby-sitting for his girlfriend, Sharon Worthy, 22, of Bridgeport.
Worthy is awaiting trial on a charge of injury to a child/recklessness. Police said she failed to call authorities or to get medical help for her child.
Authorities have said that Worthy left Jesse and her 1-year-old son, Malachi Yeley, alone with Copeland on March 30, 2010, while she went to a Bridgeport hospital to give birth.
Copeland told investigators that he found Jesse unconscious on the floor.
Jesse died the next day at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
The boy had a head injury, broken vertebra, a broken hip and bruises all over his body, officials have reported. Malachi and the third child are in foster care, officials said.

Thank God, this nasty baby beater and sexual abuser, Curtis Leon Copeland, got life with no parole. Thank you jury! I wish more cases would end up this way. They should require that a photo of sweet little Jesse be placed in his cell so he can look at the child that he committed such horiffic crimes against.

As for the piece of trash mother that keeps getting pregnant cause she can't keep her hands off a man, I hope she gets a good long sentence as well and never her give back the other children to her. She deserved mandatory sterilization if it were only a requirement for child abusers.
