Re: GARRETT SCARBOROUGH - 14 yo - Lubbock TX
Lubbock police on Monday remained tight-lipped after a Lubbock teen
was found safe after being missing from his family for about 12 hours.
Lubbock police were still investigating what happened after
14-year-old Garrett Scarborough left his family's 47th Street home to go
jogging near Maedgen Elementary School, 4401 Nashville Ave.
When the teen didn't return home, his family called police.
Authorities released the teen's picture to the media in their search for him.
"They're not sure of everything that transpired over the evening,"
Capt. Greg Stevens said. "Detectives are still working through the case."
Authorities declined to release details about what the teen told
them. Stevens said police were not searching for anybody else in
connection with the case.
Officers found Scarborough early Monday morning unharmed about five
miles away from home.
A resident called police at about 6:30 a.m. to report a boy
matching the description of Scarborough was wandering around the Maggie
Trejo Center, in the 3200 block of Amherst Street.
"He was kind of confused and a little dazed, but he was OK," Police Lt. Neal Barron said.
Authorities had been searching for him all night, including
detectives who worked through the night hours to investigate the missing persons case.
Patrol officers called in juvenile detectives after it appeared it
might be something more than a runaway case.
For example, Stevens said the teen left his house in running
clothes and didn't take his phone, any money or any extra clothing
items. After initiating an investigation, officers learned the teen had
been spotted running in the area where he said he would be.
Not only had officials not yet validated many details in the case,
Stevens said the information they could release was limited because the
investigation involved a juvenile.
The family did not wish to speak to the media on Monday after
Scarborough was found.
