A 4-year-old Bakersfield boy, found critically injured at his home
Friday, is brain dead.
Mark Dixon, called Marky by family, was
airlifted to the Children’s Hospital, Central California in Madera after
firefighters found him with severe head trauma at his west Bakersfield
trailer home.
Detectives say the parents told them the boy fell,
and they are checking out their story to see if that is the case.
The toddler was living in a travel trailer in the 22000 block of Stockdale
Highway with his parents, Mark and Alexis Dixon, when he suffered some
sort of severe trauma that landed him in critical condition, and brain dead.
The trailer where the Dixon family lives is behind Cowen's
Pet Resort, and we are told the father works there.
Deputies say about 5 p.m. Friday, a 911 call was made from someone at Cowen's Pet
Resort saying a boy was having a seizure.
When fire crews arrived, they became suspicious because of Marky's injuries which
included head trauma.
Marky was airlifed from the west Bakersfield trailer to Kern Medical Center, and because his injuries
were so severe, he was airlifted once again to Madera.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Homicide unit were on scene at KMC for hours,
interviewing hospital staff and Marky's parents.
His parents were not arrested and allowed to return home.
Detectives served a search warrant at the trailer, but have not said what they found, if anything.
One staff member at KMC reportedly saw Marky in the emergency room
and it made her cry. She said the parents told staff that he had fallen off a chair.
Saturday afternoon the father said he was told
Marky was brain dead, and he was leaving to go to the hospital in Madera.
The parents both have faced charges of child cruelty before,
and both have recent drug arrests.
In 2006, both parents were charged with willful cruelty to a child and being on drugs.
Mark Dixon pleaded no contest to all and Alexis Dixon pleaded no contest to the
drug charge, and the child cruelty charge was dismissed. In 2009,
Alexis had two drug-related arrests and Mark had one, but the charges
were all dismissed.
Marky has reportedly been in the hands of Child Protective Services before.

Questions are still swirling around the death of a four-year-old Bakersfield boy. The coroner hasn't released the cause of death for Marky Dixon, but his grandmother and uncle told 17 News they think the boy's mother is to blame. Dixon's mother, Alexis Dixon, told sheriff's deputies her son fell off his high chair. However, the child's grandmother, Glenda Dixon, says there is nothing in the home high enough to kill her grandson, and she believes the boys mother isn't telling the truth. Glenda Dixon says her son Mark was working at Cowen's Pet Resort while Marky's mother Alexis was in their mobile home watching Marky and his brother Alex.

"She said she was sleeping and then she heard a thump and she got up and Marky was on the floor," Glenda Dixon said, retelling Alexis Dixon's version of the story. "And there's nothing in that trailer that would cause those kind of damages."

Marky was taken to Kern Medical Center, then air-lifted to Children's Hospital in Madera, where he was declared brain dead. Court records show Marky's father Mark Dixon has a past conviction for willful cruelty to a child. Alexis Dixon served time in prison and was arrested in July for possessing methamphetamine. Glenda Dixon says both parents used the drug. According to a court order, Alexis Dixon was only allowed to see her son one day a month for one hour. However, Glenda Dixon says her son allowed Alexis to live with him even though he had full custody. Marky's uncle, Darren Dixon, says because Alexis was the only one home at the time, she should be punished.

"She needs to go to prison for what she's done," Darren Dixon said. "She's an unfit mother. I believe she deserves to go because she was the only one in the trailer."

Sheriff's Deputies haven't arrested anyone for Marky Dixon's death and continue to investigate. Glenda Dixon says Child Protective Services investigated Alexis Dixon about two years ago, but C.P.S. isn't commenting on this case until the coroner's report is released.

The autopsy is incomplete, but there are new developments in the investigation into the death of 4-year-old Marky Dixon.

He died in late April after suffering massive head trauma while in the care of his mother, Alexis Dixon.

His father, Mark Dixon, who was not in the trailer when the baby was critically injured, believes they will be cleared of any wrong doing and says he took a polygraph test to prove it....

1 Year Later: Boy's death still under investigation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — One full year after it happened, investigators now say the death of 4-year-old Markey Dixon was a homicide.

Eyewitness News has continued asking questions about the case and discovered investigators have also found old injuries to the little boy.

I read that the couple split and Alexis Dixon has since had another child. Does she still have custody of her living children? If so, they will probably fall and die soon unless someone intervenes.
