ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - In the case
against Casey Anthony , prosecutors are
now revealing exactly why they think she deserves the death penalty.
According to prosecutors, Caylee's murder happened during aggravated
child abuse. The crime, they say, was especially heinous, atrocious and
cruel. They also argue that is was committed in a cold, calculate
and premeditated manner. In addition, they note that Caylee was under the age of 12
and Casey was in a position of familial authority over her daughter.
If Casey is found guilty of murder, a jury would have to decide if
those factors apply to the crime and if they are enough to merit the
death penalty. A judge has ordered that the State hand its list
to Casey's defense team so that they may better prepare for a trial.
Anthony's murder trial is set to
begin on May 9, 2011. All depositions of witnesses are to be completed
by October 31, 2010. She remains jailed on a charge of first-degree
murder in the death of her daughter Caylee who was last seen in June of
2008, but she was not reported missing until a month later. Her remains
were found in woods near the family's home on December 11, 2008.
