"Baby Jane Doe" - 16 Months - Ogden (E of Champaign) IL
A 19-year-old Ogden man was charged
Tuesday with aggravated sexual abuse of a child and inflicting serious
injury on a child after police say he abused an infant earlier this
month.
Abraham Esquival was charged with both felonies after an
investigation into a May 2 incident.
Lt. Scott Conley said the 16-month-old girl was taken to McKay-Dee
Hospital after her mother noticed her in pain and saw blood in her
diaper.
"There were indications of possible sexual abuse and a possible
fractured left femur," Conley said. "The medical staff felt she had been
sexually abused."
Conley said the girl was taken to the hospital with marks and
injuries to her lower groin.
"The child was indicating pain," Conley said. "She was very fussy,
and kept pushing her hands away."
Conley said the mother asked Esquival how the girl was injured and he
told her he didn't know. The mother told police that Esquival also had
abused the girl when he was a juvenile. He became a suspect after
several people who lived with the girl made statements to police.
After being arrested and questioned, Conley said Esquival admitted to
the charges against him.
"He said he was angry at the time," he said. "That he was still
struggling with anger from the first (abuse) issue."
Esquival told police the injury occurred when he was cleaning the
girl during a diaper change. Conley said the evidence led the Weber
County Attorney's Office to file charges.
