PEYTON LONKOSKI - 10 Months - Rhinelander (N of Wausau) WI
Rhinelander WI ---- The Rhinelander father who pleaded guilty on two felony charges in
the death of his 10-month-old daughter, is sentenced to 12 years in
prison today.
23-year-old Matthew Lonkoski is convicted of
child abuse wrecklessly causing great harm and child neglect resulting
in the death of his daughter Peyton Lonkoski.
Peyton died last May after morphine tablet was left within her reach and she swallowed it.
Lonkoski knew she swallowed the pill and didn't take her to the hospital.
Oneida County Judge Mark Mangerson sentenced
Lonkoski to five years in jail and five years extended supervision on the child abuse charge.
Judge Mangerson then sentenced him to 12 years in jail, and five years extended supervision for the child
neglect resulting in death.
Both of those sentences will be served at the same time.
Lonkoski is not eligible for the earned release program.
During today's hearing Lonkoski reflected on what lead to Peyton's death.
He says, "I was under the influence around Peyton which was very unacceptable and very selfish
of me and was not one of my best decisions I have made in my life, but
it happened and now I have to live with it."
Even with that statement, Judge Mangerson says there is an issue of remorse and a lack
of candidness in the death of Peyton.
Defense attorney Henry Schultz, says he plans to file an appeal.
