"Toddler John Doe" - 4 yo - Rochester NH

Rochester NH ---- A local man was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly
struck a 4-year-old boy in the face.

Derek Roy Rand, 22, of 12
Heaton Street, was charged with second degree assault and is being held
on bail pending an arraignment today in Rochester District Court.

According
to a statement from Rochester Police Sgt. Anthony Deluca, the
department received a call about possible child abuse at the residence
at 12 Heaton Street. The caller told police that a 4-year-old boy, who
lives at the residence, had been injured by a male who was also living
at the residence.

Police made contact with the boy, who had
suffered multiple injuries to his face, including scratches, black eyes
and other abrasions.

Police said Rand, who was wanted on two
warrants for resisting arrests and a bench warrant, fled the scene out a
rear window of the home but was apprehended by officers in the
backyard.

Rand was taken to Strafford County Jail where he was
held on the two warrants, and was then re-arrested on the assault
charged.

Police said Rand is not the child's father, but was
living at the residence with the child and the child's mother. The child
was currently recovering from his injuries, police said.
