A Lompoc family is looking for their 19-year-old son who climbed
out of his bedroom window Saturday night and left home without
taking along his medication for depression and other conditions,
according to his mother.
Jacob Copass, the great nephew of Cowboy Copass, a popular
country singer in the 1940s and ‘50s, was last seen wearing a black
T-shirt with a white long-sleeve shirt under it, dark jeans, cowboy
boots, a light-colored cowboy hat and a tanned, hooded jacket. He
was carrying a long black duffle bag. He uses chewing tobacco.
Capt. Larry Ralston, Lompoc Police Department, said police have
a taken a missing persons report on Copass and the case has been
assigned to a detective.
Copass, who is 5-foot-10, 230 pounds, with reddish brown hair
and deep brown eyes, was last seen about 1 p.m. Sunday laying on a
bench in front of the old Mervyn's department store on North H
Street, said Kathleen Copass.
He had been talking on the Internet and spending time with
friends for several weeks prior to his disappearance and his family
said he may be trying to get in touch with people he met
online.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call
Kathleen Copass, 805-736-3498, or the Lompoc Police Department,

Missing teen home after mugging
Staff report Santa Maria Times | Posted: Monday, June 21, 2010 11:42 am | (0) Comments
A 19-year-old Lompoc man who was reported missing because he had climbed out of his bedroom window June 5 and left home without his medication for depression, has returned home, his mother said Monday.
Missing since June 5, Jacob Copass, returned home Friday, June 11, after calling his family from San Diego, where he was injured when he was attacked and robbed by three men of the money he had made welding for two days, said Kathleen Copass.
The family drove to San Diego to get him, she said.
"I have never been so scared in my life. Not hearing from my son in six days," Copass said. "All that went through my head was seeing his face on a milk carton, or opening my front door and finding a couple of police officers on my doorstep, telling me my son was not going to be coming home ever again. The worst went through my head."
Copass said her son, who is the great nephew of Cowboy Copass, the popular country singer in the 1940s and '50s, left home out of frustration because he couldn't find a job in Lompoc.
"Jake is home now, and recuperating from his injuries," his mother said Monday. "His ribs are healing and he has no more eye swelling. His knee is still messed up.
"But he is home. He promised he would never do anything like that again."
