"Toddler John Doe" - 2 yo - Lake Worth FL
A Lake Worth man is charged with aggravated child abuse after
authorities said he beat, grabbed, threw and burned his girlfriend's
2-year-old son.Michael L. Cameron, 25, is in jail in lieu of
$25,000 bail."The pattern of the circular marks appears to be a
branding type injury from either a hot or sharp object which is circular
with a hollow center," a medical summary is quoted in a Palm Beach
County Sheriff's report. The sheriff's office was not able to
determine exactly what was used, spokeswoman Teri Barbera said today.According
to the report, on May 1, deputies went to Bethesda Memorial Hospital in
Boynton Beach, where the child's grandmother had brought the boy with
multiple bruises and burns on his face, back, chest, legs and feet. The
boy also had leg injuries and was unable to walk, the report said.It
said none of the injuries were life-threatening, but that the boy had
bruises, gouges and burn marks which, based on their stages of healing,
had occurred at different times. The child's mother later told
detectives Cameron had abused both her and her child and treated the boy
differently than his two biological children. She said Cameron stays
home with the children while she works. She said she'd seen
Cameron grab and squeeze the boy and throw him on a bed, causing his
head to strike a wall.Cameron later told detectives he and the
woman had lived together for about 10 months and had a "rocky"
relationship. He admitted being rough with the child but denied being
responsible for the bruises.Palm Beach County Jail records show
Cameron, unemployed and a native of New York, was arrested three times
in 2009 for failing to appear on traffic charges.
