"Infant John" CRANDALL - 2 yo - Lenoir City (SW of Knoxville) TN
A 23-year-old Lenoir City man faces charges he recorded rapes of his
2-year-old son and put scenes of the attacks on the Internet.
Edward Crandall was being held Tuesday without bond in Loudon County
Jail. Crandall was charged with two counts of rape of a child.
He was arrested Thursday at a West Knoxville convenience store on
Kingston Pike where he worked, said Harriman Police Department Detective
Dan Schneider.
Schneider said the investigation was launched as part of the
Knoxville Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
A month-long probe resulted Thursday in the seizure of a computer at
Crandall's home in Lenoir City, Schneider said.
Investigators expected to find pornography on the computer but didn't
have a clue that Crandall's son was involved.
"When we examined the computer, we found the abuse," Schneider said.
The video of the abuse revealed that it occurred at Crandall's home,
Schneider said. It appears the abuse was inflicted in "the early part of
this year or the latter part of last year," he said.
Crandall allegedly shared the videos of raping his son with others
with similar interests on the Internet, Schneider said.
Crandall is not married but has had visitation rights with his son,
who lives with his mother, Schneider said.
The child was examined by medical authorities. The investigation is
continuing, and further charges are expected, Schneider said.
Although none of the alleged criminal acts occurred in Harriman,
Schneider was involved in the probe because the Harriman Police
Department is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
