ZANE BEDINGER - 7 yo - Troy (N of Dayton) OH

A statewide Amber Alert was issued on Thursday after a 7-year-old boy in
western Ohio was apparently abducted.
The child, Zane Bedinger, was last seen at an apartment complex in Troy.
Police said that the man suspected in the boy's disappearance, Jeff
Bedinger, is wanted for questioning in a slaying that occurred in Troy. He is believed to be
armed with a handgun. A large dog is also believed to be inside the vehicle.
Authorities did not say whether the suspect and child are related.
Zane Bedinger is white, 4 feet tall and weighs 65 pounds. He has
blonde or strawberry hair and brown eyes. He was wearing gray swimming trunks with black flowers
and flip-flops at the time of his disappearance.
Jeff Bedinger, 50, has brown hair and brown eyes. He is white, 6 feet 3 inches tall and
weighs 235 pounds.

Police investigating a fatal shooting have
issued an Amber Alert for a 7-year-old boy taken from the fatal shooting
scene Thursday afternoon at the Towne Park apartments on the city’s west side.
The boy is identified as Zane Bedinger, who is 4-feet tall and weighs around 65 pounds. He was last
seen wearing a gray swim trunks with black flowers and flip flops.
Police said Zane has blond hair and brown eyes and is very tan.
The suspect is Jeff Bedinger, a 50-year-old
white male who is 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. Jeff Bedinger is Zane’s
father, according to the Amber Alert. Jeff Bedinger is believed to have
fled the scene in a silver 2007 Honda Accord with Ohio license plate EDT
6246. If you see them, call 911. The suspect is considered armed with a
9 mm and dangerous and Zane is in grave danger, according to the alert.
“Do not try to intercede, this subject has
been involved in a shooting, and we consider him armed and dangerous.
Please call 911 or your local law enforcement authority if you notice
the vehicle or this child. Let us do what we do,” Troy Police Capt.
Chuck Adams.
A mother lived at the Towne Park Apartment with her two sons —
one of whom is dead and the other is Zane, the missing child.
Jeff Bendinger is the stepfather to the victim and could be heading to Indianapolis,
Troy Det. Capt. Chris Anderson said.
The mother was away from the
apartment when the shooting occurred. When she came back, she saw Zane
with Jeff Bedinger in the car and found her 22-year-old son shot in the
apartment. The victim’s name has not been released.
“Mom was out of the house prior to the shooting
and arrived back to find this tragedy,” Anderson said.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. at the
apartments located north of Ohio 41 between Experiment Farm Road and Interstate 75.
Dayton police responded at 5:30 p.m. to 553 Shroyer, looking for Bedinger in the story-and-half
white bungalow. They closed off a two-block section of Shroyer with eight squad cars.
“He was not there,” Lt. Brian Johns said. Nor was the vehicle or Zane. “Officers forced entry
to the house to make sure the boy was not inside,” Johns said.
The victim did not live at the Troy apartment
but was visiting, according to Adams, the Troy police captain. Zane
lives at the Troy address. Adams said Zane’s mother witnessed the
shooting and was able to escape.
Adams said police have asked for it to be a nationwide Amber Alert because the
family has relatives out-of-state. Johns said the elder Bedinger had family in Indiana.
Kathleen and Michael Niarhos are neighbors to Jeff Bedinger and his wife. “They are sweet
people. They always stopped and talked to us when they walked their
dog,” Kathleen Niarhos said. “Our dogs played together.”
The couple said that changed about two weeks
ago when Bedinger and his wife separated. “He told us she took the
dog and the boy, Zane, and moved out,” Kathleen Niarhos said.
Her husband said he saw Jeff Bedinger this morning.

TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - One person was shot and
killed at the Towne Park apartments in Troy, Ohio Thursday afternoon.
Police have not identified the victim, but said the suspect is
51-year-old Jeff Bedinger. They said Bedinger left the scene with
his seven-year-old son, Zane Bedinger. Authorities consider Zane
Bedinger to be abducted and have issued an Amber Alert. They believe
the suspect and child may have traveled to Indiana and are possibly be
en route to the Carmel or Hamilton County area. Zane Bedinger is a
white male, 4 feet tall, weighing 65 pounds. He has blonde hair and
brown eyes. The child was last seen at 1862 Towne Park Dr. Apt. #2 in
Troy, Ohio wearing gray swimming trunks with black flowers. He was also

A statewide Amber Alert has
been canceled for a missing 7-year-old boy from Miami County.
UPDATE: Bedinger, 7, was found safe dropped off at a
relatives home in Indiana. The suspect, Jeff Bedinger is still at large.
The alert was issued for Zane Bedinger, 7, who was last seen at 1862
Towne Park Drive Apartment 2 in Troy, Ohio at about midnight. Bedinger
has been found safe.
Fifty-year-old Jeff Bedinger, who is believed to be armed with a
handgun is wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide that
occurred in Troy.
Police are on the lookout for a 2007 silver Honda Accord, four-door
with Ohio license plate EDT 6246.
Officials said they believe the suspect is dangerous.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 235
pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. His clothing was not known.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Police confirm that Troy murder suspect Jeff Bedinger is in custody.
He crashed his car on Wilmington Pike near the old Hollywood
Video store Friday night after a chase. Three other vehicles, including a
limousine bus, were involved. The bus driver confirms there were some
injuries on the bus. Sugarcreek Township and Centerville police
along with Montgomery County deputies were on the scene and Wilmington
Pike was closed. Deputies were chasing Bedinger down Wilmington -
Dayton Road. When Bedinger's car crossed Wilmington Pike and Briggs
Road, his car hit another car, which then crashed into the bus.
Bedinger's car overturned. Police say Bedinger shot his stepson,
22-year-old Brandon Haskins, inside Kimberly Bedinger's Troy apartment
Thursday. After the shooting, police say Bedinger took his
seven-year-old son Zane and drove to Carmel, Indiana. Police issued an
Amber Alert. Zane was later found safe at a Carmel residence. He
was reunited with his mother late Thursday night. Jeff Bedinger
is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, and abduction. Kimberly
and Jeff Bedinger recently seperated. They had lived in Dayton in a
house on Shroyer Road. Police went there Thursday, but did not find
Bedinger. Police have not given an official reason for Brandon
Haskins murder. But friends believe Haskins was trying to protect his
little brother.

50 year old Jeff Bedinger is behind bars now after a two-day long
manhunt that spanned two states. Bedinger was arrested after a police
chase that ended in crash in Ohio. The crash caught on the dashboard
camera, shows his car flipping on its top after crashing into
another car. "It's such a tragedy on so many levels," said Sharon
Bedinger, Jeff's stepmother. And in the middle of it all, 7 year
old Zane. Bedinger took the boy, after allegedly killing his 22 year
old stepson.

"He shot Brandon 3 times and then told Kim that
she needed to prepare her will and that he was going kill her next and
then he shot Brandon 4 more times," Paige Miller Bedinger's, stepsister
said. The suspect tehn drove to Carmel where he dropped Zane off at a
friend's house.

The family says they thought he was coming for
them next.

Sharon, married to Jeff's father for more than 30
years, says Bedinger has been out of work for more than a year,
depressed, and in the process of filing for bankruptcy and angry at his
family for not helping him buy a new car.

"We knew he was upset
with us because his dad told him that we weren't going to buy him the
car, and he told him that it was our decision not just his," Sharon
said. "You know when someone has lost everything and has nothing
else to lose that's a really dangerous emotional position to be in,"
Paige added. The family said they spoke with Bedinger from his
Ohio jail cell.

"I said Jeff I'm so happy to hear your voice, I
know that you're safe and he said I wish I was dead, and I said I know
you do, but God's not through with you, and we're gonna get through
this," Sharon said. Bedinger told the family that he plans on
pleading guilty. He will be arraigned on Monday. His
family hopes the abduction charges will be dropped.

A man who police said kidnapped his 7-year-old
son and fled to central Indiana after fatally shooting his 22-year-old
stepson in Ohio was arraigned on several charges Monday.Jeff
Bedinger, 50, was arrested in Dayton, Ohio, Friday after a chase and
crash.Police and federal investigators searched for Bedinger for
more than 24 hours, crawling through a Carmel neighborhood where
authorities said he dropped off his son, Zane Bedinger, with close

Prosecutors will present evidence against
Jeff Bedinger in the July 8 fatal shooting of his stepson Brandon
Haskins to a Miami County grand jury, but won’t seek the death penalty,
Prosecutor Gary Nasal said Tuesday, July 20.
“At this point in time, this does not look like a case with a
death penalty specification. It doesn’t meet any of the criteria for the
death penalty,” Nasal said after Bedinger waived a preliminary hearing
on three felony charges, sending the case to the grand jury.
Bedinger, 50, of Dayton made no comment and
looked straight ahead during Tuesday’s brief hearing before Judge Mel
Kemmer in county Municipal Court.
Defense lawyer Jose Lopez of Troy spoke for Bedinger, saying he had agreed to
waive his right to a preliminary hearing on the charges of aggravated
murder, kidnapping and abduction.
Kemmer sent the charges to the grand jury for its consideration, and continued
Bedinger’s bail of $1.6 million cash.
Nasal declined to discuss additional details in the shooting of Haskins, 22,
at a Troy apartment he shared with his mother, Kimberly Bedinger, and younger brother, Zane Bedinger, 7.
“The evidence will speak for itself at trial,” Nasal said. “This is a
horrible tragedy, and we will do everything we can to make sure justice is served.”
Bedinger’s estranged wife, Kimberly, told police she and her husband had attended a counseling
session and planned to go swimming on July 8 when he pulled out a
handgun, shooting and killing Haskins.
Fleeing with Zane and a family dog, Jeff Bedinger, was the target of a
nationwide Amber Alert. The boy was left, unharmed, at the home of a
relative in Indiana a couple of hours after the 4 p.m. shooting.
Jeff Bedinger was arrested the next night in
Sugarcreek Twp., Greene County, following a pursuit that ended with a
crash in Wilmington Pike. No one was seriously injured in the wreck.
Nasal said the case would be presented to the
grand jury, as early as Monday, July 26. Prosecutors are deciding if
they will be ready to go before the grand jury then or wait until its
next meeting in early August.
Discussions have not been held on any possible plea bargain, Nasal said.

The Miami County man charged with killing his stepson pleaded guilty to aggravated murder Monday. The move came nearly a week before his trial was set to begin. Police said Jeff Bedinger fatally shot Brandon Haskins in a Troy apartment back in July. Bedinger was also accused of kidnapping his own son minutes after the murder, touching off an Amber Alert in Ohio and Indiana. The child was not harmed. Bedinger was arrested days later after a pursuit and crash near the Montgomery, Greene County line. Bedinger faces at least twenty years in prison. He will be sentenced on November 15th.

Neighbors in the Raleigh Village Apartments watched Tuesday as crime scene investigators came and went for much of the day looking for clues into the disappearance of a 10-month-old girl missing for about 10 days.Three police cars and a crime scene van left the apartment complex at 4992 Yale Road just before 6 p.m. with officers at the scene declining to comment.A police spokesman later said the "baby is still missing," but provided no details of the investigation.Neighbor Tiffany Jones, 23, a Burger King cashier who lives immediately opposite the mother's second-floor apartment, said the family, including a young boy, "just moved in two or three weeks ago and she (the mother) keeps to herself. She's not really there a lot, so I don't know anything about her." Jones said her apartment and the apartment where the missing baby lived are identical two-bedroom apartments renting for $585 a month.She said she had not met the mother, but described her as "about average height and about 145 to 150 pounds with a light complexion." She estimated the young boy who lived in the apartment was 4 or 5 years old.Police issued a city watch alert for the missing baby and were investigating reports that the mother turned the child over to a stranger about 10 days ago after the stranger identified herself as a friend of the baby's father.Jarvis McDaniel, 23, one of those who gathered in the parking lot Tuesday while police scoured the apartment, said the story of turning a baby over to a stranger sounded too odd to believe. "That doesn't sound right. That's crazy."Police wearing blue vinyl gloves loaded items from the apartment, including a car seat and another seat, into a crime scene van along with a brown grocery sack with other items. No one answered the apartment door after police left.A neighbor in an adjoining block of apartments in the same complex remained on the lot talking with friends after police drove away. "That's why I don't come out very much," said LaShunda Langton, 23, gripping the hand of her 4-year-old daughter.
