Man charged with sex crimes

MARION
— A 13-year-old girl who had been missing for 36 hours after she ran
away with a 19-year-old man from New Jersey she met online was found at
her home Monday afternoon. The girl was arrested for unruly juvenile offenses and was taken to the
Edward J. Ruzzo Juvenile Detention Center after police questioned her,
said Maj. Jay McDonald.Nineteen-year-old Buddy Bojacuick
who ran from the girl’s home when police came to find him was arrested
on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for allegedly
assaulting the girl, a fourth-degree felony. He also was charged with
interference with custody, a first-degree misdemeanor.Police
started looking for the girl and Bojacuick when her family reported
her missing early Sunday morning. The two left on foot and walked along
railroad tracks to Wyandot County from the girl’s Fairground Street
home. A tipster learned they were there after hearing they were being
sought and called Marion police. After getting the tip at
about 1 p.m. Monday, detectives went to the elderly couple’s home in
Wyandot County, but Bojacuick and the girl already had left after
getting a neighbor to drive them back to Marion.Officers
found the girl at her home at about 1:40 p.m. and though she said she
didn’t know where Bojacuick was, an officer saw him run out the back of
the home. After a short foot pursuit, Det. Jim Fitsko and Chief Tom Bell caught him at the intersection of Milburn Avenue and May Street.“We were really happy we were able to find her before any significant harm came to her,” McDonald said. The
man and the girl had stopped at the elderly couple’s house in Wyandot
County to ask for food, and when the two left Marion, the girl was
wearing only flip flops. Her feet were swollen and blistered, McDonald said.Bojacuick,
who police say is from Vineland, N.J., has no prior record, McDonald
said. A warrant for interference of custody was issued for his arrest
Monday morning before the tipster called. The 19-year-old
came to Marion at least a week ago and had been living in the girl’s
home, unknown to her parents, he said. The two had been in contact for
several weeks online,, where they first met.The girl’s
parents discovered Bojacuick Saturday afternoon and kicked him out of
the home. Police came to the home, but Bojacuick had left the home and
the problem seemed to be resolved, McDonald said. Then the girl’s parents reported her missing.Bojacuick
took a bus from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh to start the trip to Ohio,
and apparently between a combination of walking and hitchhiking, he made
it the rest of the way to Marion.“They had no money, no plan, no food,” McDonald said.Officers were happy to find her without severe injury, he said. The case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges Tuesday.Bojacuick is being held at Multi-County Correctional Center.
