ALYSSA REHFIELD - 16 yo - Richmond (SW of Houston) TX/NM alerted

Richmond police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 16-year-old
girl. Alyssa Rehfield was last seen at 11:20 p.m. Monday at her home in
the Pecan Grove subdivision. Investigators believe she is with
36-year-old David Karan, a man she met on the Internet.
Fort Bend County detectives believe the two were last in Boerne,
Texas at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday and were possibly heading out of state. They
were traveling in a small, light-colored car with a hatchback.
Alyssa is 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds, and has blonde hair and brown eyes. She also wears braces.
She was last seen wearing dark blue or black skinny jeans, a black shirt and a wrap-around cardigan.
Karan is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds, and has brown
hair and blue eyes. Investigators said he has lived in Missouri, Oregon
and California.

The
sultry photo on Alyssa Rehfield's Facebook page easily could be that of a
college-age woman. But Rehfield is only 16, and, since she left her
Richmond home in the dead of night with a 36-year-old man, has been the
object of a statewide police search.

Fort Bend County Sheriff's Capt. James Burger on Tuesday said authorities, who issued an
Amber Alert, are uncertain whether Rehfield was kidnapped or willingly
departed with the man she presumably met online.

Rehfield, who moved
to Richmond with her mother, Carol Rehfield, several weeks ago, was last
seen about 11:30 p.m. Monday. She was discovered missing about 1 a.m.
Tuesday. Records show the family recently lived in the Magnolia area.

Burger identified
Rehfield's male companion as David Karan, who lived in Oregon and
Missouri before recently taking up residence at a Beltway 8 motel.
Little is known about Karan other than he apparently does not have a
criminal history.

Upon receiving the
missing person report, authorities searched for Karan at the motel, but
he had departed. Early Tuesday, authorities in the Hill Country town of
Boerne reported seeing a car matching the description of Karan's
vehicle.

Rehfield and Karan are thought traveling in a silver 1995 Ford Aspire with Oregon plates 884-AGZ.

Burger said the pair may be en route to Oregon or California.

Burger said it is
unknown how long Rehfield and Karan had been acquainted, but the teen
made several cell phone calls to the man's motel room in the past month.
He added that Rehfield left her cell phone behind when she departed
with Karan.

Both are 5-feet,
7-inches tall. Rehfield weighs 180 pounds, has blonde hair and brown
eyes and wears braces. Karan, who weighs 130 pounds, has thinning brown
hair and blue eyes.

Karan, Burger said,
faces the possibility of criminal charges, including soliciting a minor
on the Internet, and, if the couple was sexually intimate, statutory
rape.

But, he said, "There are a lot of ifs."

An update in the case of a missing Richmond teen. The Amber Alert has
been canceled after 16-year-old Alyssa Rehfield was found.
The cancellation was announced overnight. There are few details as to
what led to the cancellation, or where Rehfield was located. Rehfield
was last seen Monday night in her Fort Bend County home. She was
believed to be with 36-year-old David Karan, a man she met on an
Internet gaming site. His car was last seen near San Antonio on Tuesday.

According to Fort Bend County Sheriff’s
Office Chief Deputy Craig Brady, when 16-year-old Pecan Grove resident
Alyssa Rehfield left her home and ran off with 36-year-old David Karan,
it was consensual – and not the first time the two had physical contact.


Karan has been charged with enticing a child, a third degree felony, and is
being held in New Mexico on a $150,000 bond. He will eventually be
extradited to Fort Bend County.



“Without question she was with him of her own accord,” said Brady.
“If she were 18 years old, we wouldn’t be here talking.”
An Amber Alert was issued for Rehfield Tuesday when her mother
discovered her missing. The alert was cancelled late last night after
the pair was found in Raton, New Mexico.
They were pulled over in Karan’s car by local authorities.
Karan has been charged with enticing a child, a third degree felony,
and is being held in New Mexico on a $150,000 bond. He will eventually
be extradited to Fort Bend County.
Brady said Karan has no verifiable criminal record.
According to Brady, Rehfield and Karan, who met through a social
networking Internet site, have had an ongoing relationship since at least 2009.
Karan has apparently been living since June in an extended stay hotel
near Fort Bend County. Brady did not know where he lived previously.
According to Brady, in 2009 Rehfield’s mother raised allegations of
sexual contact between Karan and her daughter, but the Harris County
District Attorney’s Office never went ahead with the charges.
Brady said he is unsure why charges were not filed.
“That’s not really uncommon,” said Brady. “A lot of times parents
don’t want to subject their children to the legal process and testifying in court.”
Rehfield is still in New Mexico, in the custody of the state’s
Children, Youth and Families Department. Her mother and stepfather are on their way to get her.
Karan faces the possibility of additional charges once he is interviewed by Fort Bend County detectives.
