Ja'LON WRIGHT-LEAK - 1 yo - Detroit MI

She has sole custody of her child, but hasn't seen her baby in almost
a month. Lakeisha Leak says the father belongs to an alternative
religious group and won't return the one-year-old because their beliefs
differ. "Just keep thinking, 'Like okay, how long is this going
to go on before somebody actually helps me find my baby,'" said Lakeisha
Leak. Leak is heart broken mother who hasn't seen her
one-year-old son, Ja'lon, in almost a month. She says his father, Thomas
Wright, kidnapped him. Although she let Wright take him for a few days,
he refuses to give her son back. "It started feeling like a
hostage situation. It's like, 'I'm not going to tell you where he is.
I'm not giving him back to you basically because I have to protect him
to know the truth that he is the true and living god,'" Leak said. The
truth Leak says he's referring to is based on his new faith. The Five
Percenters is an extreme religious group that split from the Nation of
Islam. Their belief is that the black man is god. Leak says because she
doesn't believe in their god, Wright, who now calls himself Righteous Allah,
won't give her son back. "It feels like a death. It's like mourning a loss," said Leak. She
has since filed two police reports and got a court order signed by a
judge that states if Wright doesn't return her son immediately, he will
be held in contempt and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
It's been almost a week and she says there's been no Amber Alert or arrest warrant. We
spoke to Detroit Police about the case and they say are investigating,
but they have a lot of questions, including whether the court order is
even legal since the father hasn't been served and whether an Amber
Alert can even be issued because the mother originally gave the boy to
his father. "Does that make me wrong as a mother because I let my son
spend time with his father that I don't get him back," Leak asked. But
what worries her the most is Leak has no idea where they are or who
they're with. She says Wright doesn't have a job or what he needs to
take care of his son, who has a physical disability. Ja'lon is without
his leg brace. If he doesn't wear it for twelve hours a day to correct
his clubfoot, the damage is long term and irreversible. As each day passes, Leak's frustration grows. "Just
why? Like prevent all of this this. Prevent the news, prevent the
court, prevent this warrant and all of this stuff because long term that hurts our son," Leak said.
