Missing Wilkinsburg Baby Found In Los Angeles
Submitted by Ruperta on 25 August, 2010 - 22:18.
A missing infant from Wilkinsburg has been found safe and sound in California.
According to a press release, police in Los Angeles contacted Wilkinsburg Police Tuesday night around 9:45 p.m. about a child they had in protective custody.
The child turned out to be 5-month-old Raymont Pope.
Police have been searching for the child and his father, Radford, since Aug. 10.
Authorities in New Mexico had a hit on Pope's silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan with Pennsylvania plate number GTX-0261, but were unsure if Pope and the baby were in the vehicle.
Last night, Radford Pope sought shelter at a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles.
Staff at the shelter felt that something was not right about the request and called police.
When police arrived, they discovered that the child was listed as missing and there was an arrest warrant for Radford Pope.
He was also carrying a prohibited knife and was arrested on that charge and is being held in the Los Angeles County Jail.
Raymont Pope is currently in the care of the Los Angeles County Child Protective Services.
The child's mother has been contacted and work is currently being done to reunite the two.
