Wow Tom, she is gorgeous. I'm wondering why every second child is diagnosed with a mental disorder. Do you think it's true or rather Dr's labeling and subscribing every little thing which should be considered normal? Or worse still, diagnosing a problem with the child when their behavior is just a manifestation of shocking parenting. If it's true is this the result of parents who took drugs while pregnant or something? Something in the water? It's really bothering me. I'm not saying it isn't true in this case BTW.

---My impression is (and I am by no means a Scientologist) that docs are so rushed these days and parents want instant cures. Many times these meds are prescribed by primary care doctors or pediatricians without proper referral to psychological/psychiatric counseling.kiwimom wrote:Wow Tom, she is gorgeous. I do feel that life can be better with the right meds but I agree that it should not be a first line of remedy. Proper evaluation by specialists should be first.

Rachel York's stepmother said the teen is not the typical runaway.
Last Sunday, York, 14, and another resident fled Buckeye Ranch, a
treatment facility in Grove City that offers mental health and substance
abuse services for children. The sophomore-to-be at Mount Gilead High
School had been there for about a month."She's been quite a handful, but this is probably the most drastic thing she's done," said Julie York, Rachel's stepmother.York
said Rachel has substance abuse issues and a mental health problem. She
has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, a condition
that leads to impulsive actions, an unstable mood and chaotic
relationships.Rachel, who is featured on the state attorney general's website, www.mcc.ag.state.oh.us, and Samantha Shamblin climbed out a window at Buckeye Ranch, leaving "pillow people" in their beds.York said Rachel has plenty of family members, including her mother, in Mansfield."If anybody's even heard from her so we know she's OK ... we'll take anything we can get," York said.Rachel
is 5 feet, 4 inches and 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Rachel has scars on her left leg, a tattoo on the left side of her chest
and on her right shoulder blade a picture of a cross with the letters
RIPSS.Anyone with information is asked to call the Grove City Police Department at 614-277-1710.
