San Juan TX ---- Police continue to search for a man who allegedly
kidnapped his 10-day-old son Friday morning.
Christian Davila purportedly entered his common-law wife’s home just
before 7:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of Hooper Street in San Juan and
snatched the infant from his mother while she was breastfeeding the
child, Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said.
The mother – 17-year-old Adrienna Tafolla – allegedly chased after
Davila and jumped into the back of his pick-up as he drove away.
Although police tried to issue an Amber Alert for the child, the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children denied the request,
saying the case did not meet their criteria.

Tafolla’s family claimed to have received a phone call from her
Friday evening. They say she informed them that she and the child –
Jaden -- were unharmed. However, she was unable to notify them where they were.
Investigators were unable to trace where the call may have come from, the chief said.

Authorities notified the Rio Grande Valley’s international bridges
in case Davila tries to flee toward Mexico.
Tafolla’s family has previously reported a number of violent
incidents involving Davila and at one point boarded their home shut to
keep him away from them, the chief said.
Davila has previously been charged with burglary, criminal
trespassing and resisting arrest. In May, he was released from jail
after serving 59 days on a burglary charge.
"(He) has a history," Gonzalez said. "We want to make sure nobody's hurt."
We know that there’s some phone call that was made," he
said. "But sometimes calling the family to say everything is OK is just a
tactic that the suspect uses to keep the family at bay."We are
working with the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and
many other agencies to try to find them," Gonzalez said. "We’re using
all the resources we can pull together to find them, and we won’t stop until we do."

A high school student was arraigned on Saturday on charges that he broke into his common-law wife's home Friday morning.

Christian Davila, 17, may face further charges of kidnapping their 10-day-old son.

San Juan Municipal Judge Eloy Hernandez charged Davila with criminal trespassing
of a habitation, a class A misdemeanor. If convicted, he could face up
to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.

Hernandez placed bail bond at $50,000 before Davila was remanded to the Hidalgo County jail.

Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said investigators believe the suspect entered the home of
17-year-old Adrienna Tafolla around 7 a.m. Friday and grabbed their
infant son while she was breastfeeding the child.
Authorities said Tafolla chased after Davila, jumping into the back of his truck as he drove away.
The mother and child were found unharmed at a house about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, after a 14-hour search.

San Juan officers also called in a SWAT team to help draw the suspect out of the house.

Gonzalez said the mother and child were safely returned to their home later Friday night.

"We believe (they) were being held against their will," Gonzalez said.
The judge also issued a 61-day civil protective order against Davila,
barring him from approaching Tafolla's residence within a 500-yard radius.
Hernandez said the suspect could face more charges after investigators
examine remaining evidence and statements.

At his arraignment, Davila balked at the $50,000 bond.
"Why so high now?" he said. "You didn't have to go that high, sir."
Previously, Davila has been charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and
resisting arrest. In May, he was released from jail after serving 59 days on a burglary charge.
Gonzalez said Tafolla's family reported multiple violent incidents involving
Davila in the past. At one point, he said, the family boarded their home
shut to keep the suspect out.

Earlier Friday, police unsuccessfully tried to secure an Amber Alert for the
missing child. But the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children denied the request on the basis that the case did not meet its criteria.
