The Casey Anthony defense team wants DNA testing done on a canvas bag found at the discovery site of Caylee Marie Anthony's remains and shorts the prosecution believes Caylee wore, according to a new motion filed in court.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason say they want DNA testing done on a canvas bag found at the recovery site and "shorts the State of Florida believes was worn by Caylee Marie Anthony," according to the motion.

The defense also asks that the items be tested by its DNA expert Richard Eikelenboom of the Dutch-based Independent Forensic Services.

"Mr. Eikelenboom is world renowned and highly regarded as a pioneer in the field of touch DNA, an area that could prove useful to the defense," the motion states. "Many laboratories in the United States have not mastered this technique, thereby placing a severe restriction on its [the defense team's] ability to find an expert with this expertise."

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Attorneys debated the possibility of sending key evidence in the Casey Anthony case overseas for testing during a status hearing on Monday.Judge Belvin Perry did not rule on the matter, but he did send a clear message about the motion.

"I will not be authorizing evidence to be shipped outside of the United States," Perry said.

Perry said he was inclined to grant a defense motion to test the evidence, but it will have to be done at a U.S. laboratory that both sides can agree upon.

The judge in the Casey Anthony case said he will likely allow the defense's request for DNA tests of Caylee's shorts and a bag found at the site where the child's remains were recovered nearly two years ago.

Chief Judge Belvin Perry said he is inclined to let the shorts and a canvas bag found with Caylee's remains to be tested, but he insists "the tests will have to be done here in the United States."

Casey Anthony Update: DNA Tests Must be Done in US, Says Judge

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS) Casey Anthony's defense team filed a motion Friday to allow Dutch experts to do additional DNA testing in the young mother's trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, but was told the testing has to stay stateside, according to a report.

In a newly filed defense motion Casey Anthony's lawyers argued that Richard Eiekelenboom's Dutch lab, Independent Forensic Services, has sophisticated technology not available in most U.S. labs, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason also argued that all 15 Florida based labs were directly affiliated with law enforcement and therefore were potentially biased against the defense, the paper reported.

"In order to conduct truly independent forensic testing many lawyers have relied on experts from areas of academia or former law enforcement to test evidence and draw away from the inherently biased approach of law enforcement only testing," the motion states.
