Edmond police are asking for help finding a missing 8-year-old girl.Investigators said Dylana Smith was taken from Ida Freeman Elementary School on Friday and they believe she is with her mother. Dylana's aunt has custody of the girl and said she is concerned about her safety.



Police said Dylana is 3 feet tall, weighs 95 pounds and was last seen wearing jeans and a white hoodie with a Mickey Mouse on it.Police said the case does not meet Amber alert criteria, but they would like the public to keep an eye out for the girl and call the Edmond Police Department with any information.

By Jacqueline Sit, News 9EDMOND, Oklahoma -- An Edmond elementary school student who was taken from her school in the middle of the day by her mother, who does not have custody of the child, is not at school again today.According to a police report, 8-year-old Dylana Smith was taken from the Ida Freeman Elementary School Friday afternoon. School surveillance video shows a faint figure of Smith in the background walking along the back walls of the gym headed for an open door. She never showed up to her classroom after having class in the gym. The legal guardian and the girl's aunt, Arnetta Greasham, told police she believes the girl's mother, Dominic Smith, may have taken the child from school because she was not happy about Greasham having custody of her daughter.Dominic Smith was released from the Oklahoma County jail several days ago. Police are seeking the public’s help in finding an 8-year-old girl missing since she left an Edmond school on Friday.

Friday afternoon police were dispatched to Ida Freeman Elementary School, 501 W. Hurd, in reference to a child being taken from the school by her biological mother, according to a report released by the Edmond Police Department today.

Police said they spoke with a relative of Dylana Smith, 8, who had been awarded legal guardianship of the child.

Video surveillance shows the child entering the school, activity in the lunch room and the child is with her class in the gym, police said. When her class lines up to leave the gym, the child is not with the rest of the students. The child is seen in the background walking along the wall of the gym, headed for an open door.

When the rest of the class arrived at their room, the child was counted absent by her teacher, police said. School staff attempted to contact the guardian who was occupied in meetings.

After the guardian was contacted, she came to the school, and said she believed the child’s biological mother, Dominic Smith, 24, of Oklahoma City, had taken her from the school, police said.

Other details about the incident were not available Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911.

Glynda Chu, spokeswoman for the Edmond Police Department, said the agency has given the Oklahoma City Police Department a flier, part of the effort to find Dylana Smith, who has been missing for a week.

Dominic R. Smith, 25, is wanted for child stealing, police said. She is accused of removing her daughter, Dylana Smith, 8, from Ida Freeman Elementary School, 501 W. Hurd, on Oct. 15.

Video surveillance shows the child entering the school, activity in the lunch room and the child with her class in the gym, police said. When her class lines up to leave the gym, the child is not with the rest of the students. The child is seen in the background walking along the wall of the gym, headed for an open door.

Recent developments in the investigation show the suspect has recently been seen in the area of 23rd Street between Meridian Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in Oklahoma City, police said.

Specifically, Smith has been seen at the Olde London Towne apartments, 5518 N.W. 23rd St., and at the 7-11 at 5550 N.W. 23rd St., police said.

“The child stealing charge is a felony and there is an arrest warrant out for Dominic Smith,” Chu said. “We are very concerned for the safety of the child and anyone with information should call 911 or the numbers on the flier.”

The Edmond Police Department is now offering a reward of up to $2,000 for the safe return of 8-year-old Dylana Smith. The little girl was taken from Ida Freeman Elementary school in Edmond on October 15.


She is believed to have been taken by her biological mother, Dominic Smith, who does not have guardianship over the child. An arrest warrant for child stealing, a felony, has been issued for Dominic Smith. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (405) 359-4466.

EDMOND — A missing 8-year-old girl has been found in Oklahoma City this morning, police report.
Dylana Smith, was taken by her biological mother from Ida Freeman Elementary School about 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, said Edmond police spokeswoman Glynda Chu."We really were worried about her welfare," Chu said.Edmond, Oklahoma City police and the FBI worked on the case. The mother, Dominic Smith, 25, does not have custody of the girl and recently got out of jail, Chu said.On Wednesday, Dominic Smith was charged with felony child endangerment in Oklahoma County District Court and an arrest warrant was issued."We've been working on this non-stop," Chu said.About 3:30 a.m. law officers went to an apartment complex in Oklahoma City at 5518 NW 23 and found Dominic Smith. Then police found the girl at another apartment nearby.
