Babysitter Charged In 7-Month-Old's Death
7:49 am EDT November 5, 2010
LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- A southwest Florida woman is charged with killing a 7-month-old baby she was baby-sitting.
Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 35-year-old Maria Guadelupe Corsa-Hernandez of Lehigh Acres on Thursday on charges of murder and aggravated child abuse.
Authorities say Corsa-Hernandez told investigators that 7-month-old David Landron started choking when she tried to feed him Wednesday. The baby died at a hospital.
Deputies say the baby didn't die from choking, but from massive head trauma and injuries from being shaken by Corsa-Hernandez.
David's mother told investigators that Corsa-Hernandez had been watching her son for about three months.
Corsa-Hernandez was being held without bail early Friday. Lee County jail records did not show whether she was represented by an attorney.

Maria Guadalupe Corsa-HernandezLEE COUNTY: A 35-year-old woman accused of killing a Lehigh Acres infant will stay in jail after a judge denied bond Friday morning.
Maria Guadalupe Corsa-Hernandez is charged with one count of Murder and one count of Child Abuse.
The judge did set a $250,000 bond for the child abuse count, but that won't matter because the murder charge will keep her in the Lee County Jail.
Deputies first learned of the case Wednesday afternoon, when they were told about the death of seven-month-old David Landron.
Investigators say Corsa-Hernandez was watching the child.
Emergency responders had been dispatched to Corsa-Hernandez's home, at 238 Milwaukee Boulevard, after Corsa-Hernandez allegedly said the boy choked on his food.
The infant was flown to HealthPark in south Fort Myers around 4 p.m. He died a short time later.
During the investigation, detectives say they found out that Landron had actually suffered massive head trauma and injuries that were consistent with being shaken.
Officials say Corsa-Hernandez was the only person with Landron when the injuries occurred.

A Lehigh Acres woman accused in the November 2010 shaking death of a
7-month-old boy she was babysitting may go to trial in March. Maria
Corsa Hernandez, 35, faces charges of homicide by aggravated
manslaughter of a child and cruelty toward a child, abuse causing great
harm in the death of baby David Landron.
Emergency room
doctors and first responders at first didn’t observe any physical signs
of trauma to the young boy, believing in the beginning he may have
choked on a piece of food. An autopsy later revealed he had massive head
trauma and had died of shaken baby syndrome.
Corsa
Hernandez was in court Wednesday, and listened as an interpreter
translated to her that attorneys had depositions all scheduled and were
looking at a potential March trial date.
Corsa-Hernandez
had looked after David in her home for three months prior to his death.
This was her first arrest in Lee County, and the Department of Children
and Families had never previously investigated her, spokesman Terry
Field said.
