ANDREW COMPTON - 18 yo (11/2010) - Carmel IN/ Louisville KY
A Carmel couple is in Louisville, Kentucky desperately searching for their missing son. According to the 18 year old's phone records his last phone call was to his mother on Thursday, October 28th. And now, Carmel Police are working with Louisville Metro Police to find Andrew Compton.
John and Angela Compton are leading their own search on Louisville streets. They want to find their son 18 year old Andrew Compton who was last seen leaving his Sullivan University dorm in Louisville October 28th at about 9:00pm. "We certainly fear that but think the circumstances under which he disappeared are quite suspicious. And he just left with the clothes on his back, his cell phone, his wallet, his mp3 player and he had shorts on." said Angela Compton. John Compton added, "He didn't take his backpack; didn't take his laptop." The suspicious circumstances Angela referred to was email correspondence with a 40 year old man who Andrew met online. The same man seen in school surveillance video picking up Andrew the last time the teen was seen on campus. Louisville Metro police questioned the man. "The individual says, Yeah I picked him up, I brought him to my house but I got too inebriated to drive him home and he left late." said John Compton. While police have questioned the man who was last seen with Andrew Compton they have not arrested him or released his name as a person of interest in the case. Meantime, the Compton family remains in Louisville where they are searching for Andrew in the area he was last seen.

(WHAS11) – WHAS11 is learning more about the missing Sullivan University student.18-year-old Andrew Compton’s parents say he would meet people on the Internet and think this could have played a role in his disappearance.
Compton was last seen near Lucia Street off Bardstown Road in the highlands last Thursday.
“That he's dead, that's my first instinct because he's never done anything like this before,” Angela Compton, the victim’s mother, said.John and Angela Compton say all the clues into their son Andrew’s disappearance are troubling.
The 18-years-old's dorm room at Sullivan University is un-touched, his bank account un-touched, his cell phone is dead and going straight to voice-mail.
According to his cell phone records the last call he made was last Thursday to his mom right before he vanished. “He's never been gone more than two or three hours at a time,” Angela Compton said.
Andrew Compton's family lives in Carmel, Ind. But now they're staying in a hotel room in Louisville while they search for Andrew, but they aren't only searching the streets.
They got into Andrews e-mail accounts where they got access to a dating Web site Andrew used. On his e-mail accounts they found Andrew hat talked to a man two days before he disappeared.
In the email accounts they found this:The man says, “Ok ill pick you up Thursday at 9 p.m.”.
Andrew says, “Cool, thanks.”
The man replies “See ya then.”
“On surveillance video Andrew is seen leaving the dorm at 9 p.m.,” Angela Compton said, “A few seconds later a white car drives out that came to pick him up.”
The Comptons turned all of this over to LMPD including the name and number of the man who Andrew chatted with. Police say they went to question the man but he has not been charged.
The Comptons worry their son is being kept against his will and being harmed.

Re: ANDREW COMPTON - 18 yo (11/2010) - Carmel IN/ Louisville KY
The search for a missing Sullivan University student turned Tuesday to a Southern Indiana landfill, after Louisville police said a Highlands-area resident told them that the student died while they were having sex and he dumped the body in a garbage bin.
Gregory M. O'Bryan, 40, of the 1600 block of Lucia Avenue, was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse in the disappearance of Andrew Compton, 18.Compton, of Carmel, Ind., was last seen Oct. 28 in the same block where O'Bryan lives, police said. He was reported missing two days later after his roommate told his parents that he hadn't checked in for a couple of days, police said.Police initially questioned O'Bryan after determining that he'd exchanged e-mails with Compton, whom he met through an online dating service.
In that initial interview, O'Bryan said he'd picked up Compton at Sullivan's Gardiner Point Residence Hall, bought alcohol and had sex with him at his apartment before Compton left, according to O'Bryan's arrest citation. But when police questioned O'Bryan a second time, he allegedly admitted that Compton died while they were having sex, according to the arrest report. He said he then had sex with the corpse.O'Bryan also told police he dumped the body in a garbage bin near his apartment, said Lt. Vince Robison, an assistant police chief.“I don't know whether he's telling the truth or not,” Robison said.Police believe the garbage bin's contents would have been taken to the Rumpke of Indiana Landfill in Medora, just west of Brownstown off Ind. 50.Investigators spent Tuesday until nightfall searching portions of the landfill, Robison said. The search is expected to continue today with the addition of more than 50 police recruits, a police spokesman said.Jefferson County Coroner Barbara Weakley-Jones, who also oversees cadaver dog searches, is assisting in the search, according to the coroner's office.Robison could not elaborate on details about how Compton died, pending the investigation. He said the medical examiner would determine an official cause of death.
O'Bryan is being held at Metro Corrections on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. today.
No criminal record
Before Monday, O'Bryan had never been charged with so much as a traffic violation, according to Jefferson County court records. His neighbors said he never seemed to leave his apartment across from Bloom Elementary and sometimes would play the same technobeat music on his stereo for hours on end.Richard Moss, a neighbor, said that during cook-outs behind the apartment building, O'Bryan would brag about his conquests of men half his age.
Neighbors Phillip Maskey and Steve Vogt, who are roommates, said they saw a several young men coming and going at O'Bryan's apartment. They never notified police because the young men looked old enough to consent, Vogt said.“It made us a little uncomfortable,” Vogt said.Moss said he complained to the landlord about the music, but the landlord told him to call the police.Culinary student
Compton had graduated from Carmel High School in May and was attending Sullivan University's culinary school because he had a love of pastries and finer foods, his mother, Angela Compton, said before O'Bryan's arrest. His family declined to comment after O'Bryan's arrest.Several hundred of Compton's friends and acquaintances — many of them in chef jackets and many more in tears — gathered for a vigil outside Sullivan's Gardiner Point Residence Hall on Tuesday night to remember him and show support for his family.Holding up candles, they shared stories about him and sang “Amazing Grace” over the roar of the nearby Watterson Expressway.Friends and roommates of Compton urged others to remember him for how he lived rather than how he died. They also said that while he seemed shy and didn't talk much, what he said was meaningful and he carried himself with dignity.Compton's cousin, Sean Vance, expressed the family's gratitude to those who helped search for Andrew and kept him in their prayers.Vance said that Andrew's cooking career began in the third grade when he made his first plate of cookies, and that coming to Sullivan was a step in his lifelong goal of becoming a chef.
Carmel High School principal John Williams wrote in an e-mail that the school was saddened to hear of his death. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of great loss,” he wrote.
Compton spoke frequently with his teachers about his passion for the culinary arts, Williams wrote, adding, “He will be missed by all who knew him.”Chris Wilner, 18, of Carmel, said Compton was shy and had difficulty making new friends, preferring to stick close to people with whom he felt comfortable.“People who knew him were concerned when none of his friends went to Sullivan with him,” Wilner said. “I was shocked when I found out. Andrew was so smart; I never thought he would make a mistake like that.”
Compton's brother, Derek, has said that his brother was shy and preferred interacting with new people online, though he rarely talked about it with his family.Sullivan Chancellor A. R. Sullivan said in a phone interview that he had met Compton a couple of times.“He was a quiet and thoughtful person who had many friends both on campus and the Gardiner Point Residence Hall, where he made a significant positive impact on the resident community.” Sullivan said.“This is a tragedy beyond all tragedies,” he said, noting Sullivan will provide grief counseling to students who might need it.A Facebook page set up to help spread the word about the search for Compton was filled with condolence messages Tuesday — both from people who had known him and strangers who had hoped he would be found alive.

Re: ANDREW COMPTON - 18 yo (11/2010) - Carmel IN/ Louisville KY
The family of an 18-year-old college student from Carmel who is presumed dead is coping with the anguish of not knowing when or if his body will be found.Greg O'Bryan, 40, was charged last week with murder, tampering with physical evidence, sodomy and abuse of a corpse in the death of Andrew Compton, a Sullivan University student who had been missing since Oct. 28.
John Compton said that his son was a quiet child and that he was surprised that the boy made friends quickly after arriving for his freshman year."He wasn't very outgoing. He wasn't the type of person to go up to people and talk to them," Compton remarked. "I think he made friends here because they didn't judge him."Compton said his son had previously turned to the Internet for escape and to make friends and that family members knew that behavior hadn't changed."My son, Derek, was able to uncover e-mail accounts that we didn't know existed," Compton said. "From there, he was able to find something that showed a communication from somebody that was picking my son up."
That communication was the link police needed to get to O'Bryan, who police said admitted that he'd met Compton on an online dating site and said that the teen died during sex and that he kept his body for a day before disposing of it and other evidence in an outdoor trash bin.Searchers have been digging through debris at a landfill in Medora, in Jackson County, for more than a week, but they haven't found any sign of Compton's body."We're hopeful each day that Andrew will be found," Compton said. "As time goes on, it's very frustrating, very trying, and it weighs on us."Compton is thankful to police and to the people who have been supportive of his family in their difficult ordeal.O'Bryan pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors in Kentucky are considering seeking the death penalty.

It's believed the relationship between the two started online and ended with their late October meeting. Now the FBI is looking for evidence on both O'Bryan's and Compton's computers.
After nine days of searching a Jackson County landfill, police were unable to find Compton's body. Gregory O'Bryan is due back in court next month.

New information and some disturbing details
are coming to light in the murder investigation of a Sullivan University
student. The discovery includes several areas of blood that police say
were cleaned up in Gregory O'Bryan's apartment, the 40-year-old charged
with the murder and sodomy of 18-year-old Andrew Compton.
Details of the case are revealed in newly
released court documents obtained by WAVE 3 News. Police say an
apartment building on Lucia Avenue in the Highlands holds the truth to
what happened to Compton, the Sullivan University student reported
missing on Halloween.
Louisville Metro Police say Compton's brother
searched his computer and found the teen had been on the site "Adam 4
Adam" and had a meeting with "greg502malehunk." Police called his phone
number and discovered "Greg" was 40-year-old Gregory O'Bryan.
Surveillance cameras showed Compton leaving
his dorm October 28th, getting into what police believe is O'Bryan's
car. Police say O'Bryan originally told detectives Compton came to his
apartment but, left the next morning.
Andrew's parents searched the streets and even at one point O'Bryan's apartment building.
In a strange turn of events---LMPD Detective
Dale Carman said on November 1, 2010 he got a call at 7:14 in the
morning from a drunk sounding O'Bryan complaining the Comptons were mad
at him for calling them and waking them up. According to court
documents, 15-minutes later, O'Bryan called the detective back asking
for a walk through of his apartment to prove the teen was not there.
Several days later on November 8th, police
went back to the apartment with a cadaver dog. According to the report,
the K-9 found the scent of a decomposing body.
A forensic tool found blood had been cleaned up in the hallway, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.
Items found with possible blood included, the
bathroom rug, a mop in the hall closet, a rug in that closet and swabs
taken from multiple areas.
Also in O'Bryan's apartment? The report
states: A black wig, a piece of leather with diamond plate snaps, child
size underwear, clothing and items geared toward children, a bag of
belts and a bag of cords.
Investigators say O'Bryan then told them
Compton died during sex, he admitted he put the teen's body in a
cardboard box and threw it in a dumpster. Police searched a landfill in
Medora, Indiana but, never found Compton's body.
On November 22, a Secret Service agent who
went through O'Bryan's computer stated he found what appeared to be
child pornography: An image of two white males between ten and
14-years-old lying on a bed exposed.
According to court documents neighbors also
told police loud arguments and physical altercations happened at
O'Bryan's apartment all the time.
Besides murder, O'Bryan is charged with
sodomy, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. He's due
back in court Thursday.

Attorneys claim prosecutors illegally contacted suspect's mother
Sep 07, 2011
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Did prosecutors cross the line in the case of a missing Sullivan University student? Gregory O'Bryan's attorneys claim prosecutors contacted his mother illegally.
The mother of an accused killer took the stand Wednesday. Even though Gregory O'Bryan's murder trial is not until April, his mother still had to testify during a special hearing.
Prosecutors say that Mrs. O'Bryan was contacted as investigators were interviewing witnesses.
Gregory O'Bryan told police he put 18-year-old Andrew Compton's body in a dumpster near Our Lady of Peace. The Sullivan University student disappeared in October, and O'Bryan admitted Compton died while they were together.
"We are constantly searching for Andrew Compton's body," prosecutor Tom Van De Rostyne said Wednesday. "We're not going to give up until we find him. So we're going to pursue every possible lead to find him so we can return him to his family if at all possible."
In court Wednesday morning, the defense says the prosecution illegally contacted O'Bryan's mother, violating his 6th Amendment rights.
"What was your motivation then to speak to Greg?" asked the defense to Donna O'Bryan, "Because his mother asked," she responded shakily, speaking about the victim's mother.
Gregory O'Bryan's mother, Donna took the stand Wednesday morning, trying to remember a phone call she received this past June. Prosecutor Tom Van De Rostyne called her seeking information on the location of the victim's body. The defense grilled Donna about how Van De Rostyne handled the phone call. "Did he explain to you that he couldn't ask you to," asked the defense, "I don't remember," said Donna O'Bryan.
"What was your understanding of who this request was coming from? From Andrew's family," she cried. She got in touch with her son--who didn't have any new information on the location of Andrew Compton's body.
O'Bryan is charged with killing Compton, an 18-year-old Sullivan University student. Court records say Compton met O'Bryan, for sex, through an internet dating site. "I said, if there's any way you can help, if there's anything else you know, because I know this family is going through hell, they need some help."
Her son is charged with murder, sodomy, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. Compton disappeared last October, and O'Bryan admitted Compton died during sex and he put his body in a dumpster. After weeks of searching an Indiana landfill, still no body. "We want to find Andrew. That's our primary concern at this point."
Van De Rostyne argues the hearing is a waste of time, and a moot point, as prosecutors will not be calling Donna O'Bryan as a witness during trial. They say the phone call was proper.
The judge will rule at a later time if the prosecution was wrong in contacting Donna O'Bryan.
The trial is scheduled for April.

Officials Testing DNA in Missing Carmel Teen Case
2/3/2012
Kentucky officials are testing flesh found in an Indiana landfill to see if it could be that of
missing Carmel resident Andrew Compton.
The man accused of killing Compton, Gregory O'Bryan, told
authorities he threw Compton's body in a dumpster after the teen died
during consentual sex. Authorities have been searching a landfill in Medora, Indiana since that time.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Van De Rostyne says three
pieces of flesh were found in that landfill. Officials do not know if
the flesh is even human, but say it is being tested for DNA to see if it matches Compton's DNA profile.
Compton was an 18-year-old freshman student at Sullivan University in
Louisville, KY when he disappeared October 28th, 2010. O'Bryan is
charged with murder, sodomy, two counts of tampering with physical
evidence and three counts of abuse of a corpse.
