Deputies: Girl Abducted From Home Monday Night


POSTED: 1:32 am EST November 23, 2010PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. -- SLED and Pickens County Deputies have issued a AMBER Alert for a missing 8-year-old girl out of Pickens County.Officials are searching for Elysha Christine Shelton, she is white, about 4 feet tall and 65 pounds with red hair.Investigators said she was taken from her mother's home by her father, Donnie Lee Shelton, a 46-year-old white male, about 6 feet tall and weighting 240 lbs.Deputies said Shelton forced his way into the home and took Elysha.According to investigators, the two are in a 2000 Red Nissan Pick-up truck, possibly heading to Tennessee.If you have any information call 911 or the Pickens County Sheriff's Department immediately.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office canceled an Amber Alert for 8-year-old Elysha Christine Shelton early Tuesday morning.Deputies found the girl and arrested the suspect. An Amber Alert was issued just before 1 a.m.Deputies say Shelton was last seen with her father, 46-year-old Donnie Lee Shelton.Deputies say Shelton forced his way into the home of his estranged wife around 6 p.m. Monday and took Elysha. The Sheltons are legally separated and the wife had issued a protective order against Donnie.

A Pickens man is charged with breaking down a door at his estranged wife’s home, grabbing his 8-year-old daughter from a bedroom and then driving away with her, according to warrants.



Authorities found Donnie Lee Shelton, 46, and the girl at a hospital in Corbin, Ky. today after a worker saw an Amber Alert about the case, Pickens County Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan said.The girl had complained of stomach problems but is believed to be fine otherwise, Morgan said. Her mother and a pastor were on their way to the small Kentucky town just off Interstate 75, Morgan said.Shelton is being held at the Whitley County Detention Center in Kentucky.A woman told deputies that her ex-husband kicked in the door to her home at 255 Ravenwood Lane about 6 p.m. Monday, a deputy wrote in an incident report.The woman alleged that the man pushed her and her 10-year-old son out of the way to get to the girl’s bedroom, the deputy wrote. She told deputies that the girl was screaming as she left the home, the deputy wrote.The man drove off with the girl in a red Nissan truck, the deputy wrote.The girl later complained of stomach problems, and her father took her to the hospital early today, Morgan said.Hospital workers thought something didn’t look right, did some checking and found the Amber Alert, Morgan said. They called authorities, Morgan said.Shelton is charged with first-degree assault and battery, a first offense of criminal domestic violence, trespassing, burglary and violating a custody order, according to warrants listing his address as 124 Sunset Drive.

According to Kentucky State Police, an 8-year-old South Carolina girl kidnapped by her father faked an illness to prompt her rescue. Police say 46-year-old Donnie Lee Shelton abducted his daughter Monday night following a custody dispute. Shelton didn't have custody of the girl, according to police, and an Amber Alert was issued in South Carolina.
Early Tuesday morning the two showed up at the emergency room of Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, located north of the Tennessee border, after the girl told her father she was sick."She feigned abdominal pain so that her dad would bring her to theemergency room when she saw a hospital sign," John Henson of BaptistRegional Medical Center said, according to CBS affiliate WYMT.
Hospital staff say a nurse there became suspicious when the girl wouldn't make eye contact with her. The nurse then checked the Amber Alert website, and called police.
In an interview from the Whitley County Jail, Shelton said he has a right to be with his daughter. "I felt like my child was in danger," Shelton said. The girl was turned over to the custody of her mother, and the pair returned to South Carolina Tuesday afternoon.
